Galley mod with your old Parts on a 26X?

Post by WidespreadSailing »

A ton of people post great mods that they have done.

I am looking to see if anyone has the old "Black" galley "face plate" and the old stove?

The PO cut into it and made room for a mini fridge / small microwave. I am looking to take it back to the way it "used" to be.

Let me know if you have the old parts lying around and what you want for them.

I want to take my 26X back to being a cruiser and less of a "floating condo".

Thanks, CKM

I still have the old single burner alcohol stove. I've never used it. I would think its operational since there's not much to it.

Thanks for the responses.
I like to recycle BUT.....
USPS said it would cost almost $100 for the black face.... Not worth it.
I can get a new alcohol stove for $30 delivered.

I guess Reduce, Reuse, Recycle are no longer applicable since I live in the FL Keys and have to ship everything in.

Again - Thanks for the responses.

Is that photo from a space station or something?

No. no space station - that's what happens to the IMOCA60 boats after they are done racing and some rich guy wants one for his personal sailboat - nice way to get to Hawaii in less than 7 days.

Hey! Look at this! It looks pretty close to a MAC X boat interior!!

Galleywise my 26X is a pretty much "unmolested" no-frills base model, except for an assortment of those modular IKEA Kitchen Wall Organizer add-ons that hang from a rail on the wall over the counter and a bladder-style pressure water system (cold only) that the previous owner had sort of half hooked up (faucet's already in place), which I plan to complete as my next big project. So, if you've got one of those optional alcohol stoves you don't need, I'd happily take it off your hands, and would be more than happy to cover shipping via PayPal. Just PM me with your contact info. For the time being I am happily using a 114 year old Universal No. 0 Alcohol Stove like this one:

Mine works just perfectly and looks weirdly almost brand new for something that was on the shelf of some General Store when Teddy Roosevelt was President, along with the jars of rock candy and a selection of fine buggy whip oils and mustache waxes. It's also handy to use out in the cockpit. I've also got a tiny stainless steel Chinese butane single-burner unit just like this one from We$t Marine (but rather predictably for less that half the price--an impulse buy from my local Global Food market--your go-to source for Kimchee-flavored crunchy fish head snacks, other delectables of dubious foreign origin like Curd Cheese made from Guinea Pig Milk, and of course those diesel-smoked Riga sprats...like sardines...that my Russian Admiral craves from time to time).

I'm pretty happy to honor Roger MacGregor's spare and functional white-silver-black interior design vision for the 26X without adding any "teaky" frippery. Still, one of those little counter alcohol stoves for the cabin, an optional add-on from the day, might be a wonderful thing.

I got one of those, but not in SS, for something like $12 from some restaurant supply. Came in a plastic case, and stores in one of the totes I use for trips. Hard to beat, and the boat came with a rusted one (tossed) and a bunch of unused fuel canisters. But being butane, a lot of folks recommend using it in the cockpit only. I also have a 120V small batch water boiler, which doesn't require ventilation of course, but does require shore power.

I'm OK with the counter and basin (original) on my boat, and I've installed a faucet with switch to control the pressure pump. But the cabinet is a mess, and the non-original front is worse. Gotta do something about that.

Some day. :|

Yeah you and me both. Mine came with a set of plastic storage drawers, like you might get at Walmart. Its mounted in place with the original black front that was badly butchered up. Over the years a few of the plastic drawers cracked. I also keep saying some day.... and then I just go out sailing and forget about it. It is the ugliest item on the boat.
