What mod or accessory would have been put here?

Hi All,
Anyone have any guess as to what mod or accessory would have gone in this hole? The wire was cut when I got the boat, I didn’t realize the wire was melted and hanging loose in the stern compartment until today. I removed the wires that were all melted together.

Melted wires went straight to the battery, maybe a battery charger?

Thanks in advance.

Edited to fix link, maybe...

I have a 26m as well have and no wires coming out from that location. Must have been for some sort of accessory or could have been a low powered solar panel feeding the battery. Good example of why circuit protection should always be placed close to the power source, if there was a proper fuse in line it would have blown long before wires melted. Lucky it didn't cause a fire.

It could have been where the receptical for a landline electric source plug in, or is it possible that it is where some sort of light was?

I run my solar panel wires exactly through that same location. However, it should NEVER be run directly to the battery. Mine goes to a controller that then goes to the panel via a FUSE.

Your PO running wires directly unfused to the batter could have started a nasty fire. It could have been a solar panel or some other 12v device. Who knows, anchor light to coffee pot.

Busted links. Pics are apparently only visible to :macm: owners. :)

I have an :macm: and can't see the pics. Could it be the blue hull?

A lot of the low amp solar panels used for trickle charging do go directly to the battery as they don't put out enough juice to overcharge the batteries...anything of significant amperage does need a controller though. Agreed either one should be protected with a fuse NEAR the battery as if the wires short or ground out they have full battery power and will burn up. My last boat had a trickle charger panel with no controller and had no issues.

Here, I converted it to tinypic

I think I know what it is!

Maybe it's for this thing?

That's what I have there on 'boat' - you think maybe it's for this?

I have that on my :macx: as well. I always thought it was only for access to the seat hinge bolts.

Hmmmm . . that does sound even more plausible.

Weird thing is, that when 'boat' came from the factory the hole was not there!

See?:

So that leaves me with another question - how the heck did the factory get the bolts in there in the first place??? :?

Couldn't the hinge have been installed prior to bolting on the top hull cover? (not sure what its called actually). Maybe the production method changed sometime between my :macx: and your :macm: and the hole only has to be there when you actually need access.

That was my inclination from the beginning.

That's interesting. My boat came with this exact same plug in that exact same place. My aversion to drilling through fiberglass led me to cut a small hole in the plastic plug to run my solar panel wire.
Maybe this is a dealer thing. I have a BWY boat with the stern seats. Did they cut a hole to access the bolts?

Your BOAT has no such hole/plug.

Bingo Russ! ! Your the winner of the prize today - you finally figured it out - that's what it is - it's the hole cap for the aftermarket stern seats! - I think I remember a picture of the cap in the list of parts on BWY listed under "Stern Seats".

Russ is smart! :P
