Auto Pilot

Post by davera20023 »

I would like to add an Auto Pilot to my 26X. I would appreciate any recommendations.

I solo sail and it is just too difficult without the auto pilot.

Thanks,
Don

Loads of info on here regarding autopilots. Can't go wrong with the Raymarine EV-100.
Search google with ' site: macgregorsailors.com ev-100 ' . (This sites search function doesn't have much history left to it seems)

I hope you have a big pocket book, to get the best of a auto pilot you need at least wind instruments so it will steer to the wind, I know here in Australia it runs to around $4,000 plus installation ($3,000USD). Of course you can go without the wind steer but that limits the functionality but will save you around $800USD and of course you can do the installation yourself.

Raymarine also have a track record of not keeping parts once the unit gets a bit older, so find out what breaks and buy spares, I know parts for my Sport Pilot Plus auto pilot that was fitted in 1995 were not available as early as 2003 (And I mean NO parts were available). Raymarine just told anybody looking for parts to buy a new autopilot
