Anybody have the newer 90hp Yamaha on their boat?

I am shopping for a new motor for the 26x. Was convinced Suzuki was best 90hp, then saw yamaha has a 1800cc 90hp (vs 1500cc Suzuki) that is just 10lbs heavier. And Yamaha also has a 115hp that is just 34lbs heavier, plus both in Sho versions, (115hp model is said to have 126hp!, don’t know about 90 Sho horsepower). Any thoughts on Yamaha’s 90hp’s 1800cc motor? Would think it would have better torque, or would it just be a waste of Fuel? Anybody have one?

Suzuki and Yamaha both make fine outboards. I suspect you wouldn't notice much difference between either choice. I've had a several Suzuki's in the past, and currently have a 70 yamaha on my MacX and a 50 yamaha on my duckboat. With the added weight of either one you are thinking about, it would be a good idea to reinforce your transom. And you will lose some area above the outboard so tilting the O/B will be different. With my 70 Yamaha, it has the same profile as a Suzy 50 or Yammie 50, and weighs only about 8 lbs more than them. The 70 yammie is about 80 lbs lighter than the Suzie 70 or 90, so I didn't worry about the transom.

You are asking for info that only a few can give. The 90-115 hp group is not that large, and you're asking about a specific brand - making the group even smaller. Might have to wait a bit for the right person to come across your post. Hang in there.

Just an FYI, I have a 50 HP Mercury. One of the reasons I haven't explored an upgrade is because that's as big as it gets and
still allow for manual pull starting if necessary. I am an old sailor, not a bold sailor.

Looks like a good motor, I don't think it would disappoint. I had a much larger and heavier 90 on my

so it should fit fine. Yamaha makes good engines

The Susuki DF90A fits under the X seat.
Maybe find specs on that motor to compare.
