Nice list.

Could also be used for new owners to make a shopping list 8)

Roger certainly did sell a bare boat and was able to market a very low price as such. Didn't even come with a headsail and motor.

Having owned our Bear Hunt for 13 years now, our list looks very much like yours. One of our favorite functional mods is a electric-flush toilet with 18 gal holding tank and pumpout. Makes it feel less like camping.

We also added the 90HP motor, chartplotter and autopilot. And extended the V-berth to make it sleepable for a pair of actual adults.

I'm actually running out of things to do for this coming April. Usually I have big projects lined up.

Currently on the list:
*Add a tee and valve to the pressurized water line so that I can fill the Flush-Water tank from our fresh-water tank, without actually connecting the two systems. That will result in just one water-fill point. (No thru-hulls were added to create our sanitary system, it's all tanks).
*Add a valve in the flush-water line in the head that can turn off or restrict the flush-water flow. No need to drain a bunch of stored flush-water into the holding tanks while everyone is just going #1.
*Add a pull-out side-spray fitting in the head that can pulled out and used to spray water directly into the toilet. Boat toilets have narrow necks leading to the macerator and with growing teens on board you never know when it could use some...help. Ahh, boat life toilet problems with a bunch of teen boys on board.

Good problem to have. That means they're still willing to go sailing with you.

This reminds me of a review that I read before I acquired my 26S: "The MacGregor 26 is not so much a boat as it is a boat kit". It is a simple, versatile, blank slate that invites us to make it our own. I have seen many that I think go beyond the pale, but some (my wife, for instance) might say that of my boat, so there.

I now have a new list of things to consider on my boat. I thank you. My wife, well, maybe not as grateful! :D
The key to inner peace is to admit you have a problem and leave it at that.

Thanks. I feel its served me very well with plenty of weekday and weekend sailing and longer cruises with up to 3 aboard. I can be off the dock 5 minutes after I get to the slip and it takes me about 5 minutes to close up. I appreciate learning so much with the 26X as well if the mods were built in ID have lost that experience. Maybe the next step would be to go tally up the price for each mod....Nahhhh nevermind. :D :D :D

I ran into a fellow forum member at Presque Isle in Erie and we were chatting and they asked me...What mods have you done?....and I didnt have a place to even start.

I like that quote! It captures the essence of the Macgregor 26 and is one of the reasons I enjoy mine so much.

Thanks, it was fun to put the list together. Felt like I always have or had something on it to do. Definitely at a solid place with overall function and usability. Any new mod will have to pass a rigorous triple test of usefulness, timesaving, and likelihood to need service.

Pitchpolehobie and other Midwest MacgregorSailors, Let’s think about a North Channel Rendezvous in Summer 2023. Maybe the same week the TrailerSailors will be there (for those that will already be in the floatilla). Most of my mods are spin-offs from other Macgregor Sailors - seeing your boat would be inspiring. We all can learn from each other. Regards, Closehaul
