Through Transom Scupper on 26M
Hey all,
So tired of clogging drain in the engine well on our 26M.
We are thinking of installing a simple through-transom scupper valve (~1.5" diameter). Seems like such a simple and obvious fix, I'd be surprised if no one else has done the same.
Open to all advice.

Any drawings available, or photo of product you are thinking of?
I saw this from 2018:

mine bugged me so much, i cghanged it all, i put another thru hull- cant remember if it was an inch or 1.25 " on the transom, next to the existing one.
then i put a thru hull fitting in the motor well- cut out the other pathetic fitting, and just plumbed a straight line from the well top the outflow- and plumbed the sink to its own dedicated thru hull- and upgraded its size at the same time, and the hose from the sink to the thru hull.
so now if i blast the motor well fitting, it doesnt blow back up the sink, and the sink drains better too!

If someone had done it, I was going to ask for recommended parts.
I've been looking at something like this:
https://thmarinesupplies.com/products/r ... per-drains
Of course, I'd want to lay in a coat of epoxy or 3M 5200 in the hole to ensure I wasn't creating an opportunity for water ingress between the shells.

If I wasn't clear, I'm looking to directly penetrate the transom at the bottom the well where the motor is mounted. . No tubing, just a direct discharge.

The addition of a scupper through transom fitting like you describe is gonna leave an inch or more of water in the motor well to become a standing pond for aquatics. It’s a bit of a radical approach that will still get clogged but it’s you boat and your rules.
If what you’re concerned about is a clogging motor well drain then might I suggest something as an alternative? How about a screen to keep the crud out of the drain in the he first place like this:
Macgregor Mods » Miscellaneous » Motor Well Drain Screen
We did this mod a while back on our Mac26X and it has made a night/day difference. It does a fantastic job of keeping the Live Oak leaves, acorns, pine straw and other debris out of the drain line.
Just a suggestion… Your boat/Your rules

Re: Through Transom Scupper on 26M
We had a ski boat that had a motor well drain like you are considering. It did not incorporate any backflow prevention, though. It was a drain plug through hull without a drain plug in it.Piddle and Futz wrote: ↑Sat Nov 26, 2022 7:51 pm If I wasn't clear, I'm looking to directly penetrate the transom at the bottom the well where the motor is mounted. . The scupper through hull you are considering should work nicely. You are spot on with coating the hole with epoxy before installing the through hull.

That was me. It works well. I used the best fittings possible and did not install a seacock. I tried the strainer but that got clogged with pet hair

Re: Through Transom Scupper on 26M
What kinda pet has enough shedding hair to clog a strainer???
A Wooky?
With the one we made and posted (above) we have had the engine bowl filled a solid inch or two thick with pine needles, leaves and acorns and it still drained without hesitation without and crud getting in the drain line.
