A couple of questions for you experienced wise ones -
when replacing the seals on the gate valve does anyone use any form of lube on the surface and/or on the seals when seating them?
recommendations for cleaning the rust off the lifting rod?
Cheers, Bill

For what it's worth I would just replace the whole gate. Replacing the seals can be tricky and can become adrift
easily from my experience. Using some silicone grease on the seals certainly helps. The current long lifting rod should screw into the
new gate. Apply some 3M 5200 around the perimeter of the gate and a dab on the fasteners should do the trick. Easy peazy job.

That gate valve is the sketchiest thing on the boat. I’d love to come up with a replacement. I grease mine with water pump grease.

My boat is a 95 vintage 26x. I finally replaced the 11/2 inch rear ballast valve. The original was rusted into place, so screws needed to be drilled out. A new valve from an RV store was screwed in with stainless screws. No permanent sealer. Good to go for another 28 years?

The sketchiest thing on the boat was that forward hatch latch. Had to replace it right away.

I think mine quickly broke too but I was able to fix it. The knob fell off.
