Vang or preventer?

So it looks like I have the roller reefing boom on my boat. This makes me think a vang would be impossible to install. How would install a preventer or vang to keep from crash gybeing?
thanks all!

A preventer can, and generally should, be rigged to the end of the boom anyway, so that one isn’t inherently a problem. If your boom has the same thin stainless tang that mine does for the mainsheet block attachment, you will want to add another attachment point. The 1st time the preventer is loaded it will bend that tang easily. If you add a lead that runs forward so you can reach it when the boom is already sheeted out, the lead will get wrapped inside the reefed sail, so you won’t be able to use it when reefed.
A vang seems like a harder problem, not sure about that one. I don’t know how a vang would do anything to prevent a crash jibe though.
