ready to tackle rewiring

Post by kplawe »

Greetings, new to the forum so this might be covered someplace that I have not yet found.

I am redoing the wiring in my Mac22. Love the boat so far.

I would really like to keep the fuse box (see images) but I having trouble understanding the wiring. Is anyone familiar with how the wiring should be set up on this fuse box?

It's pretty basic. Macgregor kept it very simple.

The positive lead from the battery will go to the bus bar on the fuses. I would recommend another inline fuse close to the batter if not exist.
Each of the switches then goes to the appropriate circuit (Cabin lights, running lights, mast light)

On my boat, Macgregor had a negative bus BOLT. Yea a bolt where all the negative circuits terminated.

What exactly are you having trouble with?

Thanks for taking a look at it Russ. I was confused about the wiring on the far side. Your explanation that it is a bus bar for the positive line helps me understand how to move forward.
Maybe one follow-on question. I assume a 12V battery is all that is needed to run the electrical. Is that what you would suggest?

Battery needs depend on how you use your boat.

Your profile lists a Mac 22, which I assume means you have a smaller outboard that doesn't need a battery to start.
So that leaves just illumination from the switch panel to running lights and cabin lights. So yes, a 12v battery is probably all you need and only for lighting.

Now MY boat has an outboard that needs a battery to start. I also have a 12v cooler, stereo, VHF radio, water pumps and all kinds of other stuffs, so I have more power needs.
