Good afternoon Macgregor world. I bought this 1999 26x Macgregor last year. I have been steadily making repairs and progress. The helm station is a mystery to me why the previous owner cut these holes. I want to remount the controller to the side of the helm station instead of on the side of the bench for seating.
I will be replacing the existing plexiglass with sturdier custom acrylics to mount the controller.
The cut out at the top allows room for this column inside.
The previous owner also had what seems to be a GPS mount. I have he GPS, but not the bracket it attached to in order to mount it.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

First of all, WELCOME! We're glad to have you here!
Engine controllers are usually "reversible". You may have to open it up to move things around. Think about where the electrical, throttle, and shifter cables will have to be run if you move it.
If your pedestal still has the factory smoked acrylic covers they should be fine to mount your controller. From my experience that is where most of the installers mounted them. You just need to put a fender washer on the back side to spread the load.
I'm not sure what the "column inside" is but it might be for the mast carrier. There should be a stainless steel plate with a hole in the center and a loop coming 90 degrees off the front. That is where your mast carrier should be if the mast is down. The loop is the standard attachment point for the main sheet.
I don't recognize the holes but I'd guess that it was car stereo or cd player mounted there at one time. If the speaker wires come up inside the pedestal then that would be a pretty good confirmation.
Unless you GPS unit is very old you should be able to order a replacement mounting bracket from the manufacturer. If they don't have it anymore, post a picture of the unit and we can all brainstorm a mount for you.
If those are the only mysteries that the PO left you then you are very fortunate!
Bill
