For a few years our state was inspecting boats entering our waterways. We were provided an "education" on prevention and awarded a sticker to place on our boat to avoid inspection stations.

Since we were exempt, I never went through the inspection stations. However, they seemed to utilize steam to "sanitize" boats in question.

They stopped the program last year when it was deemed unnecessary. I suspect the funding ran out was most likely the reason. Once they get into water systems, there is no way to get rid of them.

We have an invasive Carp fish problem. There are zillion of them and each year they have a competition to see how many tons of Carp can be bow hunted from the shoreline.
