Now that I have a full battened mainsail I've been thinking about getting some lazy jacks.

Any of you who have lazy jacks:

1. Are they worth it?

2. How well do they work?

3. Anyone have a better system for quick mainsail setting up and stowing then lazy jacks?

I need to make some modifications to my mainsail handling as well... I'm thinking a downhaul and lazyjacks will make life much easier when singlehanding. Looking forward to reading some lazyjack comments.

I have lazy jacks. I have had them since 97. I find that I often hang up on them on the uphaul. Often I have to shake the sail out to get it to haul up all the way. Also, I have difficulty storing my sail, but Duanne Dunn said you can get sail covers that are easier to utilize than the cover I have. It is a cover that opens at the top and not the bottom, so the sail goes right in. I have to spend ten minutes getting my jacks adjusted....I have become use to the jacks, but do take time.....20 minutes to button everything up, could do in ten without jacks, but then wouldn't have the control on the boom that I wanted and needed.

I wonder if a boom kicker wouldn't have been good enough for what I needed on the Mac?

Lazy Jacks are naughtical and effective. With slugs and full battens I think it couldn't get any better.... Randy

Not lazy jacks, but a way to reasonably control your sail as it is lowered. Easy to put a sail cover over, since you can lower the caddy to match the bulk of the sail. http://www.sailcaddy.com/

I have some lazy jacks I made for my X. I made some for my previous 26S and wanted them for my X as well. Really aids in single handling.
When I lower the mast, the lazy jacks are moved forward under the hook for the main tack. There is a picture on one of my mods pages: http://www.thecyberbuddy.com/Sailing/Page21.html
