honda bf50 voltage regulator

Post by robertw »

I have a 2000 honda bf50. The voltage output seems to be a constant 15.6 volts, no matter how long I run the motor. I am thinking the voltage regulator is bad. It looks like a somewhat frequent problem with this motor. Does anybody know the part # of a new voltage regulator?

thanks

You can try these folks:

I had a similar problem (I think it was cranking out about 17 volts, if I remember correctly). In all fairness, it MAY have been caused by an inadvertent disconnection of power while the motor was running.

It was fixed by the extended warranty the previous owner had purchased. Now the voltage, according to my chartplotter's display, is 14.1.

Ditto, had the same problem documented in another thread about 6 months ago.

Regulator was replaced and the charging voltage came back down to 13.9 depending on engine speed. It's a plug in component that you could do.

As Mike said follow the link, enter your year, then pick your engine serial number.
The regulator's under the REGULATOR + REMOTE CONTROL CABLE section.
There's a picture of it. It's labeled "rectifier" as it has the diodes and the voltage regulator in the same module.
Mine was pn 31600-ZV5-003, but look it up with your year & engine sn to be sure.
