We're still in the "break in" stage for our 97 x...that's both breaking in the boat and us. We've spent several weekends aboard now but have just been tieing up to the dock at the cottage for the night and barbequeing on land. We decided not to do any major mods for the first season until we had gotten used to everything, although I had to break that rule after our first uncomfortable on-board sleep and extend the v berth. But we're at the point where if we're going to overnight anywhere other than at our own cottage's dock, we're going to need a barbecue. I've looked at the marine units and they're all stainless and quite expensive. We're not on salt water and I don't know if stainless is really necessary...I figure my Broil King has been out on my deck for years baking in the sun, getting soaked by rain, and burning off a foot of snow when I fire it up during the winter...and it still works great. Does anyone else use a smaller version of a regular gas grill? Do they mount the same way? I've also noticed that some of the marine grills double as stoves. Is this a matter of the BTU ouput? Are there any other differences I should be concerned about?

I picked up a Magma Pary size off of ebay last winter for fifty bucks. It is the unit that doubles as an oven and stove top. They have some different incerts insde to cover the burner to make them function as stove or oven...

While it is the marine stuff, we're very happy with our bbq setup on the transom.



We also have two other places the bbq table can be mounted down below. One is on the back of the forward dinette seat, and the other is just forward of the galley where it makes a great galley extention and a nice entertainment center for movies with the laptop. The galley rod holder is removeable so you can have the port seat clear if desired.





Multiple uses always make something nicer in the compact spaces below.

Great multiple use Mod Duane...now I can justify one of those to the Admiral...hey dear, look at all it does.

I'm in the process of mounting one of those cheap portable propane grills to one of those Magma Levellocks, to mount it to a fishingrod holder...

Duane, next time you have the camera close by in the boat, would you take a detail photo of your curtain and rod ends set-up ?.... looking at putting curtains into my boat too....

DLT...have you got your grill set up yet? How is it working out? Got any pictures? I'm still not sure how/where to mount mine.

I must have bad luck at net searching, because I can't find where to buy a third mate table like you show in the photo. Where did you get it? and cost?

Here is my mod...

Just a cheap gas BBQ grill. You can buy one of these just about anywhere, and I've seen them for as low as $10...

I mounted a Magma Levellock to the bottom of it. I think www.defender.com had it the cheapest I've found that (I tried to link straight to it, but it wouldn't work)...

Voila, a rod holder mounted, and otherwise stowable, BBQ grill...

Even if you need a rod holder, you're out <$100.

Depending on how well we like it, over time, we may replace the grill with a SST grill, like this one.

I wonder if George Foreman visits this board?

FYI everyone, I have been lurking on ebay and watching Magma grills go for 75-100USD in 'like new condition, 50-75 USD for obviously used.

Add 10-15 USD for shipping.
Delete tax and say 6 hail Marys as penance for your sin.
