While out sailing this weekend,I swam under the boat to check for fouling and noticed the dagger board has a 1" gash on the rear side where it makes contact with the hull. I have not knocked the board in the down position.Is this a common occurance with the M and will I need to strengthen the rear side of the board to prevent further damage?

I would be careful reinforcing the daggerboard. Don't make it too strong that it will damage the boat if it hits something. I would rather have the DB break than the hull.

You should be able to pull the board out from up top, make any repair, and replace. The glass work doesn't have to be perfect.

I figure I haven't seen the board on our boat, so it must be in perfect shape If you never saw it, you would never know about it .. I would leave it unless it is really bad.

If you are going to spend some effort on a repair, might as well have it be a big repair than a small one.

The other day I bent way over and looked under the trailer to check out the underside of the boat, and I too saw a small gash in my centerboard. I decided that dropping the centerboard, reglassing, then installing, was not worth it. I will wait until I get a real bad, second gash, before fixing. If I never get a second gash...

Just returned from a week in the 1000 Islands and saw the same problem on my daggerboard, not too impressed. Having problems with cracks on the transomm seat as well as the companionway hatch. 26M is trying my patience between lightly built for trailerablity as opposed to plain old lightly built.
