Does anyone know the spec's on the rubrail, and where best to get one...Tried w/o success to fill the gaps with 5200, but between really hot weather, and my bumbling skills, the finished product looks, well, like s--t!
Probably best to replace the whole thing. Never done it before, so helpful hints would also be appreciated. Thanks.

Considering that it's a strip of rubber that's been somewhat stretched completely around the hull deck joint ... I never held much hope for the idea of filling-in rail gaps with black 5200. Some say they've done it but I doubt it lasts a month without pulling loose & looking like cr@p.

Have you phoned the factory in Costa Mesa? I expect the same rubrail is used for both X and M, so they can probably send you one without delay. Also, the factory sells parts at pretty close to their cost ... spare parts are not a "profit center" there. Call them first, and ask Bill for hints - they're just trying to help out.

Well, patience and little skill, and 5200 can work just fine. Mine has been on the Bow about a 4" area for 2 years now with little notice of degradation.

I did see some rubrail rope once, and in maybe GOLD or BLACK, maybe even WHITE, that would really look good! I haven't a clue where to source it, but it looked very smart!

If anyone has a link to a product that I described, it would be much appreciated!

I saw that "rope rubrail" on a trawler at the boat show, but it was definitely too big for a Mac - probably 2" diameter manila tri-twist. Maybe they do sell it in all sizes for retrofit. Would it look like this stuff from Hamilton Marine?




BTW, just in case the factory won't help, I noticed that rubrail kits are in the catalog at www.iboats.com and at www.defender.com. Seemed like Defender was charging a lot. I'd still phone Macgregor Yachts first.

i have been told it takes a lot of stretch to make the length 50 ft. standard amount that is provided fit the boat; Do it in the summer in the hot sun, and you need to use a come-along or tow-motor to get enough power and hold to do the job right.

got mine last year Blue Water Yatchs.
A fellow boater wacked me on my mooring.
I already had two cuts in the rub rail , but he put in two more. Plus two holes at the combing. All fixed now.

No idea! I just saw them in the catalog and it looks like they have a ton of different styles. One must be identical or at least compatible.

Does anyone know how to determine which one is compatible? I'd like to get this job done. Spoke to Bill at the Mac offices...Price of rail from them is very fair, and Bill was helpful. But they'll only ship after getting cashiers check or money order...Was hoping for a less cumbersome way to get one. Thanks for your help.
