I was talking with the boatowner next to my slip at our marina.
He stated that he had just come back from California and had talked with
the MacGregor factory people.
They stated that they had produced a new hull mold and were producing a totally new design for the '2006' boats...

Is this correct?

I hadn't noticed anyone on this site mentioning this before.
If true...does anyone know what the 'significant' changes are?

This new 06 hull goes aginst other reports from folks that have recently visited the factory and taken a tour. But, it wouldn't surprise me if it were true. Those who have liked the 03-05 design have already got their boats, so time to "move on" and try and pull in some new buyers.


I won't believe anything until I see it myself. When it comes to new desings, there are orten more rumors than fact.

Bill gave absolutely no hint that there was a new hull design coming.

I got a factory tour from him last Monday.

He did indicate that the hull master is handmade and thus quite expensive. Another reason to not make a new hull, at least not for another several years.

Cool, maybe the 30-32 footer that should be the ultimate trailer sailor, with a little extra strength to give it better seaworthiness for longer ocean jaunts.
You really need a full sized truck to tow anyway, and a full sized truck would easily handle a bit more boat on the trailer.


Time to break out of the old molds, given that the competors have followed him into the 26 ft size. Screw fitting 2 into those shipping containers. Where is the real market for these boats? gotta be the US right? Let them furriners make their own boats.

I visited the factory 2 weeks ago, and they told me the 2006 model did not have any major changes, only small modifications. They also told me that they are only thinking of an entire new model after they produced 5000 out of the old mold. And I do not think that number is reached yet.

Maybe they have a new liner mold, which they might have been referring to, which might mean a new interior layout, or significantly modified version of the present interior

Simon, there was an article on the 2004M and that subject in the July 2004 Pacific Yachting. They considered the 26M a compitent coastal cruiser. If you want a copy of the article send me a personal email. I live in Vancouver.

For general interest of those new to the forum, you should avoid posting your email address into any webpage. In addition to Rich's just above, I recall seeing it elsewhere in these threads, just recently. The spammers use automated robots to crawl thru every webpage looking for the @ symbol.

I've gotten six new 2006 26M's in so far. The only change I've noticed, is the trailer lights are now made in China, instead of Wisconsin. The bulbs are not sealed, as the previous ones were, so I suggest you disconnect the trailer lights before backing into the water so you don't blow the bulbs when your brake lights go on.
Actually, the trailers are still 2005, because their model year changes on January 1. The boat model year changes on July 1.

My wife and I just put our deposit on a new M yesterday. The one that we test sailed was a new 06( splashed three days prior). the only thing that I saw that was diff was that the gally counter top was the same color as the linner instead of the corion looking finish. I was told that is the way they do them now.

I have been to the factory a few times ( I used to do work right next door to it ) and am familiar with the boat. I didnt see any other hull/struct changes in the boat.

I just have to pick the options we want and wait. I should be wet before halloween.
