Dowsar Full Enclosure on 26M

Post by NautiMoments »

I am looking at installing a full enclosure on a 26M. We are looking at the BWY unit as well as the Dowsar. We have seen the BWY unit but have not found anyone with a Dowsar unit installed on a 26M in our area. We like the quality of the Dowsar and the wider dodger, standing height & screened windows. But are conderned with the visibility through the Dodger. We saw one on a X and found the dodger quite low thus possibly causing limited visibility. Does anyone have the full enclosure on the :macm: ? Is the dodger higher than the :macx: version and how is the visibility through it from the helm? Is the dodger outside the winches? Does it give enough protection for the cockpit? How hard is it to go forward? Can you sail with just the transition piece out or do you have to remove the side pieces as well? We live in Vancouver and it gets a little rainy & windy at times. Are the fabric connections in corner like the bimini-side panel-transition piece fairly weather proof? The biggest question, does anyone have picture? We have asked Dowsar if they have sold any dodgers or enclosures for the :macm: in the Vancouver or Pacific North West area and could we go and see them but have no response yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Lots of info on the X but not the M.

I would be curious too.

Of course a good starting point is Duane with his X

Dowsar Dodger

Post by Terry »

Ken, Carol,
I am also checking out the Dowasar Dodger but not the full enclosure. One of my concerns is a zip up companionway door like the BWY design but they currently do not have it. I sent Art an e-mail asking if I could get it custom made and he said he'd talk to his canvas guy and get back to me, (still waiting). I'm not sure I want it without a doorway. One thing to keep in mind is Dowsar quality, as you noticed when looking at my bimini, it is all stainless steel, no plastic or aluminum like the other ones, you get what you pay for and Dowsar is expensive.

Ken,
Maybe you could call Dowsar and see if they sold any to someone in your area??

Hi Tom, good to hear from you. I sent them an email asking for that information. They said there was several dodgers and/or full enclosures installed on M's out here. I haven't seen them, but they said they would give me a list of contacts. That was over a week ago.

I still may have to get the BWY unit and modify it to what I want.

Eugene, that would be great. How is the visibility from the helm seat? When seated can you see or is the dodger lower so you have to duck down to see forward? How do you like the unit? Thanks in advance for the help.

Dowsar Dodger

Post by Terry »

Eugene,
How about the zip out window? How does it function. Does the clear plastic window zip out to let wind and water through or is it a solid piece of canvas that zips out to expose the clear plastic window? Iam also very interested in the Dodger, can't wait to see better pictures than the ones on the Dowsar website.
