New Crew Member - Biggest Mac Clan?

Imagine our surprise when my wife went in for her yearly checkup and found out she was 4 months pregnant! We thought we were done 3.5 years ago after four kids, we had got rid of ALL our baby stuff since.

So now we will be a crew of 7 on a Mac26X. In the 3+ years I've been around this board, I don't think I've ever heard of such a large family on a Mac. Any Mac family got 5 or more kids?

My first boating thought was that I need a bigger boat so I've been paying some attention to the larger trailerable boat thread...but the bottom line is that I sail shallow waters and bridges with only a 40 ft clearance so I think the Mac is still the best boat for us.

But it will probably drive a couple of major changes, first off would be a full enclosure...which I had been thinking about anyway but couldn't justify the high cost yet. With 7 people trying to camp out on a Mac, I think its pretty important to be able to sleep a couple kids in the cockpit with 5 down below in the cabin.

Secondly would be that I can't keep towing with my minivan and will finally need to bite the bullet and buy a big SUV. I've been looking at the Suburban and all its twins, the Sequoia and the new Nissan Armada with its 9100lb towing capacity. Funny thing is that while I'm looking at the numbers, I saw that the Honda Odyssey I have actually has more interior space than a Suburban. I wouldn't have thought that just looking at them.

Congrats! Our first was the whoops and the other three adopted (no surprise that way). We don't have a Mac yet but I'm going to be pushing the space envelope also. We have four kids and big dog. The dog may stay at home.

DIMITRI...ha....a fella and his family were sailing his New Mac M on a Texas Lake, I watched them off and on much of the afternoon...when I saw him coming to shore...I quickly drove there from our camp site...and begin to count the folks exiting....Yep...there were eleven (thats 11)......not all were his kids...but many were....I didnt ask how many were his, cause I was just too intrigued about his new Mac M. I betcha he holds the record, and I shouldve asked for such a time as this.... :D
And by the way...I asked him how stable was the boat with so many...he said great...but with no one allowed on deck.
An unforgetable sight...and they were having great fun...nice folks too.
:macx:
edit add on: Congrats...to you and yours....and happy sailing...

Congratulations! (That's what you get for getting rid of the baby gear!)

Things will undoubtedly be a little complicated for a while, but just think of all the helping hands in a few years, to say nothing of the smiles. Good luck to you all!

Agreed, Congratulations. We have 4 Full size kids and sail with one or two of their friends and have enough room. Family is even better.

THe BIggest problem I see for these large crews, once they grow up and are out of diapers, is the limited capacity of our Sanipotte - we have the oversize one, but we still fill it on a 5 day trip with four people.

I might have to do that macerator mod this Spring..
