Does anybody have the spec's for the mounting block used to mount a ST4000+MKII on the pedistal of an ?

Any pic's?

I have done the search and read the other post. Could not find the spec's.

I have the ST4000+MKII mounted on my M. I couldn't find any pictures or a procedure simple enough for my needs. Just to show you the kind of guy I am, I went ultra simple.

I drilled 2 holes in the underside of the pedestal box to pass a plastic zip tie through. This is the big sort you use for furnace ducting, but cut real short. The zip tie goes around the motor and holds the whole thing in place. There is a bit of play, but it seems to perform adequately.

It's biggest test was a couple weeks in the San Juans. I programmed all the GPS waypoints on my paper chart into my Garmin along with all the recommended routes. The autopilot ran about 7 hours constantly everyday and did a wonderful job of following the course. Using the motor at about 7 knots it steered a straighter course than I can manually.

It did earn the nickname "Lefty" since the autopilot mount seemed to be one spoke left of straight up and down for most of the trip.

If you look below Josh's left hand, you'll see I took a piece of cutting board and bolted it to the pedestal box behind the wheel sticking out slightly to port. Then I made a hole the correct diameter for the motor body and fitted the motor into the cutting board. Works well, and since I have a larger wheel than stock, does not interfer with movement around the pedestal. I have seen intallations where the motor is recessed directly into the pedestal box. Raymarine suggested this approach, since the actual mounting will not work on our pedestals.

I realize you are looking for M info but as described in the above post I also used a large cable tie to mount mine on an X. It has held for 4 years no problem.

I don't understand the question. What mounting block? Mounting the MKII motor drive unit on the M is a no brainer. The only thing which mounts to the pedestal is the anti-torque arm bracket, and the one that comes with the unit is made to mount to a round pedestal. It's the flat X pedestal that creates a problem for this piece, and why I came up with a custom bracket that mounts nicely to that flat.

The ST control head can be mounted to any flat surface on rthe pedestal pod or to an auxiliary bracket which itself is bolted to the pod or the pedestal.

Both of these are covered in detail in the installation manual.

This has the Motor mount.

The ST4000 http://www.raymarine.com/raymarine/Prod ... uct_id=201# Has the motor mounted on the control unit and a Pedistal pin bracket to push against. The motor does not clear the 's pedistal box and the Pedistal pin is not long enough.

I do agree that it is an easy install and has been installed in many different ways. I am looking for the most trouble free instalation as I want to go cruising for many months and do not want to work on my boat.

I was just looking at the ST4000 manual and there is a second slot for the pin that puts the motor to the side. Has anybody done this?

There is also a Bulkhead or Box pedestal mounting kit (part number E15017). Has anybody put this on?

There was no picture of their mount, as I recall it sold for a ridiculous $40, and I had no idea whether or not it would work any better, or even as well as my custom bracket.

Get an extension for your pin.

The manual really does cover most of this.

I do like the shorter pin for long term stress related problems. I will give that a try. Thanks for your input.
