Am looking for the best solution to the oxidized black paint on my X. I think there have been postings before, but i can't seem to find them.

Search on Poliglow. You'll find many different opinions among those 15 threads.

Yeah, and try 'New Glass II (two)'. Preperation is hard but in goes on like water. Yeah, maybe four or five times, but keep at it.

I have given up on the black....over the last ten years, I have waxed, buffed, huffed and puffed too many times....I didn't use the polyglow or new glass as I know they will peel under the hot desert sun, and for me that would be worse......I swear, when I get tired of it, I am going to paint it black with black epoxy paint....which is commonly used on yachts...I know it will hold color and take wax......that be my plan mates.... This is my second year w/ New Glass II. Its easy. It works here in Colorado. Strip/ clean ALL old waxes off until color is even. Then apply New Glass. Instructions are good. Be careful how you apply so you don't get streaks and all is even. But it's easy (did i say that b4?). Best solution I've found yet. Haven't had any "peeling", as noted in previous post above.

I use 3m Marine Restorer which is basically a wax and polishing compound on the severly oxidized parts. I use 3m Marine Cleaner and Wax on the rest. Once in the spring before I launch. I sometimes touchup with the Cleaner/Wax mid-summer, but usually not. I'm too busy sailing to worry about it.

Did anybody tried automotive clear coat. Cars are on the sun even in deserts, I've seen clear coat peeling if not applied properly. Wondering how will it works on black on MAc.

Bought the Porter Cable 7424 and Sonus package from Autopia (thanks for the reference from an earlier post) and used it this weekend. What a freakin difference? My black stripes on my 99 have always been gray since I bought her in 2003. With next to no elbow grease (the machine is incredible with the Sonus pads and West Marine Fiberglass Color Restorer polish/compound) I can know see my reflection in the shiny black gelcoat. Two coats of carnuba wax (using the same machine) and I hope it lasts. I did recently buy Poly-glo but want to see how long the wax will keep it shiny before I re-polish and apply the poly.

Moral of the story, get a good machine (I almost bought the Milwaukee but liked the Sonus package with the PC 7424 for $189) and it will be back to shiny in no time at all with little effort to boot.

I love mine........try the 3M Ultra Marine wax. I like to put two coats of the Aurora Marine Boat Shine on it first at the begining of the season and do monthy shine ups with their Kwik Shine.
