Hello everyone. I'm looking at buying a Venture 2-24 (as astarter boat cause I'm cash strapped right now), it was actually advertised as a Macgregor 25. Is it a weighted swing keel boat like the 25? Any major differences between it and the 25? Thanks for any info.

Well, I figured more knowledgeable posters would say something.

From everything I've ever seen, the only real difference is in the configuration of the starboard interior and maybe the location of the winch for the keel.

All-in-al, the "cheap" older unit wil give you years of fun and when you sell it, the loss will be considerably smaller.

I have two of the V-24's and like the boat . It is not a deep as the 25 but happend to be faster than the two I sailed with . I have old worn out sails and am a novice sailor . It is an ideal boat for learning and lake sailing . It is a little tender in 20 mph winds but very stable below that

This was our first season sailing, as owners of a V224. It's a very basic boat: mainsail and jib original and very stretched out. No cunningham, outhaul or reefing. The mainsheet was modified and parts lost so we have limited control of the boom. No galley or poptop cover and the "electrical system" is a battery powering a bow and stern light. Having said all of that, it's a great boat and we've loved it! We're hoping to make improvements and mods to make her a weekend cruiser.

I talked to the MacGregor factory and was told that LOA is 24'11". The guy I talked to said that when they made the M25 it was the same hull and they just changed the cabin design. The cabin is larger and the keel winch ended up inside.

I think they're a fantastic first boat!
