Has anyone used these wincher, self tailors, that you put on your winch?
I would like to order some from west marine, but I don't know the winch
size, Anyone know? Thanks.

Sorry. The above rant was me. For some reason my system decided not to log me on automatically today.

I am the one Chip gave the winchers to and I agree with all his statements. I used them for a good couple of weeks hoping that they would work like a normal self tailing winch but they don't.I think they can actually be very dangerous when the line jams in the wrong conditions.

Furthermore, if you would like these back Chip they are all yours. If you like we could pass them along to unbelievers like an old fruit cake.

I like the fruitcake analogy. So, bwayno could have them for the cost of shipping, and he could use them until he gives up and decides to unload them on the next guy.

I stopped by the marina two weeks ago, talked to John,and he said he was quite sure they'd be ready for boats no later than the 15th, probably before. I believe our plan is to be on the lake two weeks from yesterday. See you then?

Thanks for the info. on the quick self tailors. I thinks I will just use the
20-30 year old winch helpers to handle the lines for me. It is just getting
the lines right over the winches when you are in a hurry. Installing new
selftailing winches seem like a big job unless the holes line up. The quick
fix was too good to be true....

If I had the money to spend on self tailing winches, I'd spend it on something else, like an autopilot, or maybe a radar.

But seriously, if I was gonna spring for self tailors, I sure wouldn't let the question of whether the holes lined up stop me. I can guarantee it's nothing a nice piece of Starboard couldn't cure.
