Just returned from a boys weekend at Catalina 2 harbors. Decided to leave Mac at home and ride in buddy's 42 foot sea ray sedan bridge 400.
Fill up at Jankovic commercial fuel dock was 260 gallons at $2.70 a gallon = $702! Ouch. Great boat tho in rough seas, we had 5-7 feet and heavy wind confused seas both ways. Mac could take it but would have been rough. Sea Ray cabins very noisy because of fuel sloshing around, the mac ballast is not even a blip cuz of the baffled tanks(2002 x).

Next Mac Catalina trip probably week befor Bucaneer days(party to end all parties, island gets too crazy). Day sail LA harbor next week.

You guys get gas at the dock for only $2.70 :? I'm hauling my vehicles down to L.A. I should still have enough for a couple of weeks of motoring around after expenses  I think our dock price must be about $4.00 now? don't know , as I haven't checed fo nearly a year now.

Yea, they are pushing close to the $4.00 /gallon range up in Washington state too altough prices are starting to soften a bit. Earlier in the summer I stayed at a marina for a couple nights (Poets Cove) and when I paid my bill, which included gas and a T-shirt, it was just under $100.00 while the rest of the folks in line were paying close to $1000.00 dollars. You should have seen the looks and comments I got from them, I just laughed it off and was thankfull for owning a Mac. :D

The L.A. harbor commercial dock that Rolf is speaking of sells Diesel for $2.70 / gallon.
it's specifically geared towards commercial vessels and i believe that a special permit/pass is required.
elsewhere, fuel is as expensive in SoCal waters as anywhere.

i just paid $2.81 for regular at a Costco.
however, you guys in south carolina pay a lousy $2.37...

Thats why they used to call sailors. . . Whistle pi$$. We'd pull into a fuel dock to fill up and say :How much is the gas (wolf whistle!) Wow that much give me 5 gallons and where is the john again.

As ive posted earlier this year we had left over gas from last season to start the year with.

Weve fueled once this year "6 Gal" and still have about 4 gallons left.

Yay!

P.S. Im stoked that fuel is coming down though.

How come you guys get cheap petrol - you start a war, and we end up paying more for fuel in Australia.

Petrol is $1.40/litre (get with the metric system - and all your troubles will disappear - its cheaper than a war).

Diesel is $1.45/litre

And don't get me started on gallons - yanks and poms cannot even decide on what size they are. The only thing that the French ever did that improved society - the metric system.....

1 US Gallon = 3.79 litres
1 UK Gallon = 4.55 litres

And don't get me started on lazy spelling..

Cheers

Rockman ,,,can you educate me on what a Pom is ?? Looks like its a slang term for a Brit...(no offense taken) ...

At one point, there were ffour countries not using metric system,

Brunei
North Yemen
South Yemen
and U.S.

but I heard Brunei converted recently

Im building my next laser system with British Standard Fine threads to port, and Whitworth to Starboard though, just 'cause the sun never sets....

(this is getting a bit Pubby)

Rockman,

is that $US or $AUS, by the way how come Oz couldn't come up with a name for its currency other then $ ?

By the way its impossible now to buy fuel in the UK in gallons, its all litres, only beer & milk in pints (not gallons!)

As for petrol price £0.97/ltr at garages and £1.20/ltr at marinas (£1=$US 1.85 approx) but thats Mr B for you. (choose your own B!)

Thank goodness for Mac's.

Just out of interest, diesel in Marinas is half the price of the service station as it has the same tax applied as agricultural fuel, so a diesel OB would be useful.

Cheers

Hi,

Australian Dollars - which are not worth much compared to US$ & Euro (is there still a British currency - or did they give that away 8)

Just to clarify a few points (given the PM's that i have received).

POM's is a friendly term for somebody from the England (you know the country that gave us cricket - and then forgot how to play).

I made those comments partly with tongue in check. I realise that there are many other issues involved. I know that many Americans are very worried about the situation.

Like all great societies, many people think that unless the USA gets itself sorted out - it will crumble into ruins. Like all great world leaders (remember the romans).

I did not intend on offending anybody. Imagine what the US would be like if the weapons industry devoted as much effort into making something productive (like better yachts).

Cheers & good luck

Simon

:D :D

Im a Born Brit, transplanted to the States at age 5 by a Macgregor 1019 (now in her slip in Long Beach CA)

The demise of the US is prematurely reported by many in the world imho. There is a can-do attitude here about solving problems that is in a class by itself based on my travels around the world.
