Suzuki controls with new 26M pedestal

Post by Rising Star »

Has anyone installed the standard Suzuki BF50 controls on the new 2007 models 26M pedestal? My engine installer is telling me that if he mounts the control in the standard position, the throttle handle will clash with the steering wheel. Apparently, the console is either not wide enough, and/or the steering wheel is mounted differently from the older pedestal. This was not a problem with the older pedestal.

The solution is apparently to either 1) mount the control box 4.5 inches awayfrom the surface, using custom made 4.5 inch spacers in order to gain clearance or 2) use the Uniflex control. I have decided to go with the Uniflex control.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem.

I have the Mercury and had tried their standard controls on the 2007. It's throttle would also hit the wheel, unless you you got it just right and then there would only be about 1/2" clearance, so it still wouldn't be very useable. It seems the new pedestal isn't deep enough for a standard box. The good news is a Uflex fits better than it did on the old pedestal. See my post here for pics on how mine was done:

Suzuki throttle

In August when I got my Suzuki 50hp put on my 2007 26M at OX-BO Marine in Wisconsin, I wondered why it did not have the Suzuki controls. Seems like it wont fit as its too big. I have the same controller as DEJA VU but mines on the staboard side.I never did ask OX-BO the reason , perhaps I should email them.

Suzi controls on M

Post by trumpetguy »

As I write this my dealer is replacing my Honda 50 with a Suzi 70 and the control issue came up. Todd at BWY says to use a standard Suzi side mount...not the deluxe flush mount. Use the Uflex cables. You will have to enter the console from the bottom, go back down again, then back into the console, but it can be done. BWY installs a lot of Suzis and Todd can be very helpful. :macm:

Trumpguy, do you have photos of your installation? I have the standard control, but cannot figure out how this works. From examining the pedestal further, it would seem that the new pedestal is not as deep as the old one, so the lever is much closer to the wheel (and clashes with it).
