Amazing how clever some Mac "mods" have become ! Real nice. The wood floor -- classy !

One of my best "mods" is a smoke tint lexan hatch door on my X, with a SS handle, and lock. Having a cabin view through the door has been real nice. Its a recommended mod in my opinion...not too pricey and easy and worthwhile.

I have 2 additional hatch doors, 1 is a two piece lexan with a cutaway for the AC, and 1 is a screen door. They work well on my Mac-X.

I credit my hatch door "mods" to ideas received from this forum,
and Thanks...

Thanks guys for the kudo's. I usually buy my mahogany at General Woodcraft at 531 Broad St in New London Ct. Good prices and nice people. (Not affiliated in any way). But I don't want yooz all to go steal all of the good stuff from me :x

Bob - do you have any shots of your galley front cabinet you could share? I have that project this winter and am looking for ideas.

Bob, I like that you replaced the metal support pole for the dinettte table with what looks like a gently tapered wooden one - nice touch.

Catigale, yes I do have pics of the cabinet doors but the pics were taken with my new camera and am having trouble uploading the pics, (I think I have to compress the files more and will try to upload when I get the time) :?

1 Mb limit on Photobucket - but it should auto crop you if you try to upload a larger picture, and reduce it to something palatable...

I finally was able to upload new mods

WOW Bob....you could make those Teak-Holly floor sets and sell them...I'm sure! If I still had my MacM...I would be wanting to buy one for sure....maybe you could get a hobby Biz going?

Bob,
Nice stuff. It would be great if you could add more details to the mods. I'm especially curious about steps you took to make the teak and holly sole, sources for materials/plans, etc.

Thx,
Scott

I have a 4x8 sheet of teak & holly sitting in my garage, waiting to become a sole... I just gotta find the time! (BTW, that stuff ain't cheap - I think it was about $100 a sheet).

Teak and holly sole

I bought the sheet of teak and holly ply at General Woodcraft (see earlier post) and I think I paid close to $100 for it. I also used a piece of mahogany for the front of the step up. I used a product called Ultimate Sole for a finish on it, the stuff is really nice to work with and leaves a great sheen without being slipperry underfoot even when wet (not cheap tho probably around $30 a quart). I have really enjoyed the 26x over the past couple of yrs. but am currently looking at an older Cal 34 mainly because I plan to do some extended cruising next year so it looks like the X will be up for sale..........any offers? :)

Thanks for that, Bob! Very helpful!

I was still wondering a couple of things...

- Did you use the Ultimate Sole Sanding Sealer first, or just go straight to the finish coat?
- How did you secure the sole to the fiberglass? Construction adhesive or ??
- Did you use Honduras mahogany, or is that Philippine mahogany?
