Dinner & Drinks 4 Cross-Country Help?

Post by Dano »

All right I'm going to throw this out there cause the Admiral (Pirate Wench as she prefers to be called) said to. It is quite the request so bare with me.
We are getting ready to head up to Seattle, from Mexico, to pick-up our new (experienced) Mac 26x. We are then going to take a journey across the country to visit some family, take care of some business, and most importantly do some sailing. Here is my dilemma. The people we are buying the Mac from have relocated out of state, the boat is on the hard in Washington at his brothers. So having never owned a Mac before, or sailed other than riding on a small catamaran, I will not have the luxury of having someone go through how to put up the mast, rig the sails, etc... I have already downloaded the instruction manual and read it, and being pretty mechanical I can probably figure it out.

However if there was anybody out there that is located anywhere we might be traveling who would be willing to spend a few hours sharing your Mac expertise it would be appreciated, afterwards we would like to take you and your admiral out for drinks and dinner for your help, and to learn more about the whole Mac experience. Below is the detail of our travel plans. We are very excited about becoming Mac owners, and thrilled to know of all the support and knowledge that is so freely shared on this site. I have spent more time than I would care to admit in the last month searching and reading all the information, truly priceless.

We will be picking up the boat in the Seattle area around the 16th or 17th of Sept. and leaving there on the 19th. Our next stop will be in Butte MT, from there to Bismarck ND, then onto St. Cloud MN, then arriving in Tomahawk WI around the 24th or 25th. We will be staying there with the Mac in the water for about 5 days (hopefully beginning to sail). From there we will be headed down to central IL and stopping at Lake Shelbyville for a few days, and then off to Lake of the Ozarks in MO for a couple days. If at that point we haven't sunk the boat yet, oh wait it's a Mac it can't sink :D we are going to Lake Ouachita by Hot Springs AK for some good diving. Then it is off to Vermilion Bay on the Gulf of Mx in LA. And finally heading back home to Mazatlan MX where hopefully our Mac will enjoy the Sea of Cortez for many years to come.

If by this point I haven't figured it out, or had anyone show me how to operate my Mac, I probably shouldn't have it.
If there is anyone available in these areas to share your knowledge with a new Mac owner let me know, it would be very appreciated. Any other bits of advice for a newbie are also welcome.

Thanks in advance for all the help and advice,
Dan

Hope your trip is safe, and the future has many years of fun sailing for you and the Admiral. The video available for the Mac X is a good general overview.
Hope you post some pics eventually, and what will be her name?

Art & Louis

Post by Dano »

I appreciate the offer Art. Unfortunately this time our travels are not going through the Denver area, not to say on future travels we may drop in.
Louis as for her name, not quite sure yet. But we have been thinking since we live in Mazatlan MX, "COMO SE LLAMAS" which translates to "what's your name". The boss thought that would be unique. Thanks for the info about the Mac video. Will gladly take all the help I can get.

Dan,

I Work in Seattle/Kirkland, let me know when you are thinking...

PM me about your scheduled time....

I also recommend the experts while you are up here, if you are short on time.... Perhaps a lesson or two from the experts at Blue Water Yachts in Seattle might be appropriate. It might cost a little more than a lesson elsewhere..... however, The are very familiar with the boats...... And I am sure any used boat could use a few spare parts before you depart on your trip.. (that is the real cost of talking to them.....But it is alwas good to rig a couple of times before you try it on the water.)

(No I don't work for them, they don't always have what I need immediately when I need it, But they do have or can get almost everything needed, and are wonderful to work with.)

"COMO SE LLAMAS" which translates to "what's your name".
I'm sure that boat name will make some people ask for "your name". Llamarse is a reflexive verb.

I live in Bellevue, just across the lake from Seattle. I'm always ready for an excuse to get out on the water. We could meet a a local launch, I'd suggest Newport Shores in Bellevue. That time of year it won't be crowded and is an easy access well protected launch to use. It is also fresh water so you would have no cleanup issues before heading out on your trip.

I'd be happy to look at what you have and run you through the setup and operation of the boat.

I've had my X for 7 years and know the boat inside and out. Check out my website for details here http://ddunn.org/Boating.htm

PM me if you want to set something up.

Dano,
I live about an hour north of LA on the coast. I have a 98 X and can show you some of the mods you may want to do. If you are passing thru on the weekend we can look my boat over. PM me for schedule if you prefer.
