Talked to a Hunter Dealer at the TO Boat Show apperently it will be ready in time for the Chicago boat Show !!

So maybe if someone is going their they can get some pic's & prices !!!
would be interested to see what they come out with !

Hmm. Roger's already done that so they missed that boat. Better I think, to make a 28 ft job, between the Macs and the Hakes.

IMHO Hunter's quality of workmanship is lacking, and I cannot imagine they can come anywhere near the pricepoint.

Last I checked, the Hunter had a terrible cabin layout. I was not impressed at all. Saw it at a boat show in Oakland, CA. Can't remember the size (somewhere in the 22-25 foot range)

There 25 footer is rated for a 10 hp. I can't think about this size of motor pushing my boat now. Way to small for the kinds of stuff that I put my boat through.

It isn't so much about the weight/displacement, as it is how that displacement is shaped in the water. A sailboat hull has nowhere near the drag of your Mac powersailor. An 8 HP diesel or outboard will easily push a Flicka loaded to 7,000 pounds to hull speed, as will 12-14 HP with a 10,000 pound sailboat.

Moe - I do understand that but the 8 hp on a Flick cannot push it into the wind. On my crossing we had 4+ foot seas with winds on the nose from 15 to 25 mph. We would not have made it if my buddy boat did not have a 25 hp bigfoot and me with the 50 hp.

I sail in small craft advistory a lot. So the 10 hp does not cut it to make way into the wind.

"New" Hunter? Are they redesigning their former Hunter 26 trailerable sailboat into a "powersailor"?

Hunter has had several models of trailerable, water-ballasted sailboats in the 22-26 foot range over the years, but they have always been sailboats with only a small kicker motor, and all with tiller steering afaik. Nothing you'd ever classify as a powersailor.

It would be very interesting to see what they'd field as a "powersailor", I think. Contrary to the poster above, I believe Hunter's workmanship to be considerably better than Macgregor's, though not as good as Catalina or Beneteau. Of course, their 26 footer always cost roughly double what a Mac costs, too.

VOG = 1 knot

I was told it was a powersailor with a 50hp eng capability

That's really my point. I do not believe the quality of Hunter boats justifies the price. I have read some real horror stories about shoddy workmanship in Hunter boats; things you would not believe on brand new boats delivered from the factory. Not mistakes, but clearly knowing shoddiness. (Is that a word? ) I am not saying Macs are A #1 quality; clearly they are not. But IMHO you get what you pay for; you know this going in and accept it as part of paying a fraction of what you would pay for a comparably-sized boat from another manufacturer.

I'm certainly not going to say anything bad about Hunter. They sold a 26M for me a couple of years ago.
A guy wanted to buy a Hunter water-ballast boat and heard Hunter was going to stop making them. So, he went to the Hunter factory to see how they were made. The Hunter people were comparing and contrasting the Hunter with the MacGregor 26M.
He had not heard of the MacGregor 26M, so when he got back home he did his homework and bought a 26M from me.

I went to the Cleveland boat show as the same time the Chicgo show was on. I looked at the Hunters and they were made very nice, better than the MacGregors. I dont know if their water ballast 26 was the new model mentioned above. It was over twice the price of a Mac though $50000+ The Hunter 26x on show had a price of $79000 on it thats the one with a keel.I believe I have the prices right.
