I live about 2hrs from lake ozark MO. I would love to hear from people that sail there often. I am wanting to sail there I was just wanting some advice on where is a good place to launch, mooring, and sailing etc! I would be coming from the St louis area and was wanting to launch near lakeland maybe at the bagwell dam access?

I am wondering if anyone sails there? I was there for a wk the last two summers and saw less than a dozen sailboats and everyone of them were motoring. It is a mountain lake as I am sure you know, so not much wind. Much like Lake Cumberland and Dale Hollow (KY and TN) You may have to drive some to find a good Sailing lake.

That's a great question. I too have wondered how the sailing is and where to launch with mast up. Lots of beautiful lakes in Missouri and Arkansas, but most of the write ups I see are all about pontoon or fishing boats.

If you are a member of B.O.A.T.U.S., they have a ramp locator service. When you locate a ramp, you can call that location and find out what you need to know.

I have researched this a bit over the last 12 to 18 months.
Lake Stockton in W. Mo. is said to be one the the best inland lakes for sailing in the USA. Another highly acclaimed lake though farther south is Beaver Lake in Arkansas and there is another lake in Arkansas even a bit farther south where some of the Olympic teams train year round. If you desire I'll go find the name of it for you.
Table Rock Lake has some sailing on the dam side / first 1/3 of the lake its big and open and gets some wind but it can shift around a bit and especially as you travel / sail to other areas of the lake . I have talked to numerous fellows who DO sail TRL at least a few times per year.
Lake of the Ozarks ????( Short and sweet. . I've heard NOTHING GOOD about this lake!!) We have meet and personally talked with people who have recently moved off the lake!!! Talked with 2 couples who moved away from the area entirely because of the Congestion and lack of safety. That whole area seems to be a mess if you look and read enough. Party Cove grows larger ever year and to have over a thousand boats is not at all uncommon. BTW those boats end up using other parts of the lake a lot . . . . .according to many who live there!
(Often Spelled Young Drunk Rude and Dangerous and UNDERINSURED!!!) The Soprano's attitude seems to prevail.
In the summertime and though at best only a large inland lake it can still rival many a Florida Party City for the numbers of very large very fast off shore boats. It also seems ( from what I have read and heard from tose who live there ) to rival on water, alcohol related accidents and deaths!
Its all in the papers and on the Internet to read about btw.
Sailing has not caught on yet with the Pontoon and Bass Boat crowds for the most part. You dont hear Jeff Foxworthy talking about his O'Day do you? But as baby Boomers begin to move around they are taking their hobbies with them. MO and AR who seldom saw sailors retire in their area are beginning to see them now.

My understanding is this is a very muddy lake?

I havn't been there in years, I worked at Tan Tara about 40 years ago.
It is a beautiful lake, and mid summer it's busy.

Grand Lake in Oklahoma is a great lake to sail on. Not muddy at all, very clear. PM if you want details
