Stern anchor

This "tube mount" puts a reasonable-sized stern anchor in easy reach from the helm. I'm using a Fortress FX-11 in mine, which is close in size to a 13-lb Danforth. Other-style anchors with similar-sized stocks would probably fit as well.

I used 3-inch PVC pipe, 18 inches long, for the tube. I drilled it 1" from either end to mount it, and used "Toggler" stainless-steel toggle bolts to hold it in place; these may not be "perfectly self-sealing" but they have a nylon bracket that will probably come close. I secured a small piece of grating at the bottom, with a long through-bolt crosswise to the transom-wall and a screw to support the end opposite the securing-bolt. The Toggler bolts hold the tube very securely in place, and it is short enough that it doesn't interfere with anything else.

The tube is several inches shorter than the anchor stock, but that lets the flukes fall closer to vertical (otherwise they'd stick out far enough that they might interfere with a retracted rudder). Alongside the stock, there's room in the tube for the 6 feet of 5/16" chain that Fortress suggests on their FX-11. Since taking these photos, I have drilled a hole in the top of the tube, forward, for the chain-end shackle (when I don't have the nylon rode attached).

I keep the nylon-line portion of the rode in a mesh-bottomed bag in the cockpit, and if I think I might need the anchor it's easy to hook it up to the chain rode; the other end of the line goes to the starboard stern cleat. Then the Fortress is ready for quick deployment.

The anchor locker is small on the 26x. Also the anchor is hard to get to, especially if you need to set fast, such as if the engine quits in a tight area. I used a West Marine rail mounting bracket to mount the Fortress FX11, with a vinyl covered anc...
