Hatch Adjuster

The front hatch did not come with a hatch adjuster so there was no easy way to keep the front hatch open except for letting it flop all the back against the deck. This put a lot of stress on the hinges plus it was pretty unattractive.

I installed a hatch adjuster so that we can keep the front hatch open at any angle. This one works fairly well except at very low angles where it tends to slip a little bit and close. One nice thing about this hatch adjuster is that we can open up the hatch all the way for easily climbing in and out or for passing through large items.

Measure carefully and make sure to get just the right size screws for the attachment points so that they do not stick out too far and snag things (and people!) passing through the hatch. The screws go from the top of the hatch cover down and from the inside of the opening outwards to the side of the boat. With another person helping you, position the hatch adjuster where you think you want it and try opening and closing the hatch several times to make sure you are getting the full range of motion that you desire. Also make sure that the adjuster is positioned so that you are still able to lock the hatch all the way down.
