The 'Mac Bump' process never worked well with anti-skid brakes to bounce the boat forward on the trailer. I use two (2) HD rachet straps (2"x27' ~$12 each) with the rachet bolted to front of trailer and the other end of strap attached to two eyebolts that are my top engine mount bolts (I also use these eyebolts for attachment of my stern anchor bridle). For saltwater applications the HD ratchets are available in stainless steel (Unicornstainless.com). I tension the straps and drive a short distance (with assistance of RR tracks and pothole bouncing) the boat will move forward. The strap is low stretch and boat moves ~1 inch per tensioning with no risk of launching aggressively into the 'V' stop. After 4~5 iterations the boat is in or near the 'V' where I want it to be. I have a 26X on a 26M single axle alum trailer.
