Companionway Screen
- Boat Type: Illinois, MacGregor 26X, Boat Type
The companionway washboard in my 26X was cumbersome to use and store. I use it for transport and storage (when not aboard) only. When cruising, it stays in the truck. I fabricated a roll-up screen/rain cover using HD (dog resistant) screen and 100mil fabric reinforced vinal. Top is sandwiched between alum flat stock and pop riveted. Mounting is double nut to existing hatch handle bolts. During the day (when not needed) it compactly rolls up for easy storage. When installed, a simple shoestring enables tying the rolled vinal when not raining. If raining, I pull the lower portion to the steering pedestal to stay dry while allowing some air movement. The 'pet screen' will allow 'no-seeums' but is effective against normal mosquitoes. Must pack grocery bags in 4 corners of sliding hatch to make mosquito tight. Have used for over 10 yrs and still functioning effectively.
