Re: Macgregor Sailor's Map Tutorial
Just tried to add a few places Oskar has visited along the West coast of Oz (from a Windows7 PC) Seemed to work okay, but nothing showed up when I accessed to map via the direct link in this thread :( . On edit: The following brief message flashes up as the map is loaded: "This feature is not s...

Another Windlass/ Anchor Winch mod.
When single handing, retrieval of my 12kg Manson Supreme anchor can be quite a chore. I usually run the rode back to one of the jib sheet winches so that I have access to the helm and can control the boat but it is still a difficult process and one that reduces my enthusiasm for anchoring. So, Inspi...

Re: Trailer upgrading issues
jimbo: It looks very similar to the Venture trailer I bought in Perth a couple of years ago. Also a similar price. Mine had a few problems on an 8,000 km round trip to Lake Argyle but nothing substantial (cheap ST tyres wore out and the indicator light brackets broke off - they have since fixed the ...

Good work Bob, and looks good as well . I agree with your thoughts on electric drum brakes. A mate just bought a caravan with them and already proving B***** hard to get adjusted right. I cant imagine how they (and the drums) would go if they were dunked in salt water. Disks work well provided you k...

Re: Question about knots
Its worth emphasising that when you tie the loop needed for a truckers hitch, a figure of eight knot is critical. If a simple overhand not is used when creating the loop it will lock up under load and the loop will be very difficult to remove. A figure of eight knot is always easily undone. The vide...

Another option is to make an extension of the anchor locker walls say using 6" or 8" alum flat bar 3/16" thick shape it to fit inside the top lip of ur locker weld legs from say 3" alum flat bar 2 on each side 1 on the front 2 on the rear bolt these onto the anchor locker walls ...

Re: ETec 60hp Diagnostic Kits?
Wow! Thanks Mark! :) :) :) What a difference getting information from experienced people can make! I'll spend some more time on the Etec forum to see if I can find the cable assembly instructions and software. I'm sure older software will be fine because I only want to read data from the EMM, not up...

ETec 60hp Diagnostic Kits?
Hi Guys I have a E-Tec 60 HP Model E6ODPLSUM which was installed new in December 2006. It came with limited instruments (analogue-style RPM + warning lights for oil and temperature) but I would like more. I'm especially interested in getting live fuel consumption and engine temp readings. I've made ...

Re: My X is here at last
Congratulations on your new arrival! Many you fair winds and many happy days of sailing ahead :) I have to say that the one biggest worry factor for me was towing it with my wifes Great Wall X240 4WD (2.4 Litre 4 Cyl) but it handled it surprisingly well, in fact I was sitting on the freeway at 110 i...

Re: Wheel Autopilot Questions...
My experience is a bit colored because my Wheelpilot developed a faulty gearbox that burned out a couple of motors before I figured out what the problem was and replaced it. With that caveat, in answer to your questions, my experience (when the gearbox was performing properly) is : (1) No problem wh...

Re: Tow weight of 26M heavily laden for remote area cruise
Boblee: No the single axle was not stepped down because the change in wheel size was not planned but was a last minute thing when the trailer failed the initial rego inspection. Although I was happy enough with the 2.8 tonne rating, the upgraded trailer weighed a lot more so the net gain was only ab...

Re: Where to mount TV
I mounted my TV in a similar location to Mac26Mpaul, but attached the arm to the starboard cabin wall using a tapered wooden mounting block overcome the curve of the cabin wall and to spread the load.

Re: Tow weight of 26M heavily laden for remote area cruise
bartmac: The inconsistency between your rego papers and the manufacturers specs could be due to the load rating of the tyres that were fitted when it was submitted for inspection. When I upgraded the Mac trailer my target was for 3 tonnes on a single axle. The trailer guy procured springs, axle, hub...

Re: Longitudinal Bunks: evaluation, please
My new trailer has longitudinal bunks. Launching and retrieval is definitely easier than it was with the original trailer. The bunks self centre the load during retrieval and they seem to support the boat very well - no signs of wear on the hull and no evidence of stress fractures. I do make sure th...
