ETec 60hp Diagnostic Kits?

Hi Guys
I have a E-Tec 60 HP Model E6ODPLSUM which was installed new in December 2006. It came with limited instruments (analogue-style RPM + warning lights for oil and temperature) but I would like more. I'm especially interested in getting live fuel consumption and engine temp readings.

I've made some enquiries on the E-tec owners Board and have been told that my model pre-dates NMEA 2000 compatibility which rules out Evinrude's I-Command system, but I gather that its EMM is capable of sending the data I want to Evinrude's diagnostic software on a laptop via an appropriate serial-USB communication cable. From the example I found here there seems to be a lot of data from the EMM, if only you can get to it.

My local dealer wants AU$170 for a cable plus a further AU$160 for software, which seems a bit pricey in comparison to the kits I have seen on Ebay here or here.

Has anyone had any experience of these suppliers or can you suggest other possible sources?

You can get the connector you need for $4.25 here - http://www.deutschconnector.com/product ... ctors.html and there are instructions on the e-tec forum on how to put the cable together. I did this 3 years ago and I also found an older version of the software that was downloadable also from the E-tec forums.

What a difference getting information from experienced people can make!
I'll spend some more time on the Etec forum to see if I can find the cable assembly instructions and software. I'm sure older software will be fine because I only want to read data from the EMM, not upload new settings.
