Re: Looking to buy this year
I researched and investigated sailboats for amlost 2 years. First I was convinced the Mac 26M was THE boat to have. Then I drove to a dealer and looked at it. Seemed much smaller and 'frailer' than I thought it would be. Then I took a charter certification class on a Catalina 34....got spoiled on a ...

Re: New (old) boat - Lake Michigan, here we come!
Not to hijack the post, but I just bought a 1996 Hunter 280, instead of the Mac 26. After a year of research, trying on different boats, sailing with a great Mac 26X owner out of South Haven, MI (thanks Wally), I decided I wanted to keep a boat in a slip where I could jump on and go without a lot of...

Re: Chicago /NW Indiana Area Mac Owners
Thanks to the generousity of Wally up in South Haven, MI, I got a very good "tutorial" on rigging and launching a Mac 26X. I sure appreciate the hospitality....and the opportunity to sail with you Wally. Now, if I could find someone with a newer Mac 26M in the Chicagoland/NW Indiana area, ...

Re: Homeowners Insurance?
Thanks for all of the good responses. I suspected that even if State Farm would cover the boat under my homeowners insurance, it would not really provide the full coverage I would like to have. I will check with my agent, but I suspect I need to add $300 or so into my budget for insurance. Thanks ag...

Homeowners Insurance?
One of the things Roger Mac sells in his 26M video is that this boat can "often be covered under your existing homeowners insurance". I have not checked with my insurance agent, but I have some reservations about this. Has anyone actually got their Mac 26 covered under their homeowners ins...

Chicago /NW Indiana Area Mac Owners
I have been "studying" MacGregor boats for a year now as I plan to take up sailing. I was absolutely convinced a 2005 or newer Mac 26M (with blue hull) was the boat for me. I wanted something I could get into relatively inexpensively, a boat I could maintain myself, that would carry a larg...

Re: Cleveland Boat Show.. very few sailboats
Greg - the margin on these boats is tight and showing any distance away from the home office makes no economic sense whatsoever. Roger builds the same number of boats every year and sells them all, with the DOW at 6000 or 14000. I understand that to a point, but if Norse Boat can have a unit there,...

Re: Cleveland Boat Show.. very few sailboats
I went to the Strictly Sail show in Chicago at Navy Pier a few weeks ago. My first attendance at the event, but it seemed like a good selection of (mostly larger) sailboats...Catalina, Beneteau, Hunter and others. They did have a few smaller boats...Hunter Edge and a Seaward RK26. One of the more in...

Any Mac Dealers at Chicago Sailboat Show?
I was hoping to look over a Mac 26M at the upcoming Strictly Sail Chicago boat show at the end of January. I do not see any MacGregor dealers listed on the Exhibitor / Products list.
Hard to believe that the Chicago / Northwest Indiana area would not be a good market for the Mac 26.

Re: misc. rambling, rants, raves and short stories
Curtis,
If you want to give your 26M away CHEAP, I am your guy
Just kidding. Sounds like all of us who are comtemplating a purchase can learn a lot from your ordeal and hopefully we can avoid some of the same issues.
Good luck (but PM me if you want to unload it)

26M Galley Changes
I have been researching the Mac 26 on line for some time now, and I noticed that the galley location has changed at some point. In some photos of the 26M (and I think all of the ones of the 26X) the galley is on the port side, but on other 26M's, the galley is located up against the bulkhead wall (w...
