Re: Gelcoat Issue Mac 26M (is it a lemon?)

They definitely can blister, but the only ones bleating about FG failure are the folks getting the bucks for the repairs, imho. Well, if someone have a serious skin rash all over the body the best advice is to visit doctor and eliminate the problem. Another option is to use cosmetics and convince y...

Re: Gelcoat Issue Mac 26M (is it a lemon?)

We are commencing blistering repair started last year and I would like to share some observations discovered and proved (at least for me) connecting to this discussion. First of all blistering is an OSMOTIC process, nothing else. Not a "cosmetic issue" as bottom part of blistered gelcoat f...

Re: WIND SYSTEM CHOICE

Of course you can - for me it takes 5 minutes to screw out 3 bolts and disconnect one shroud. I found one picture you can see general idea. http://content22-foto.inbox.lv/albums159420990/a.lapchik/09-11-2010/DSC00442.jpg One hole for all cables (VHF, anchor light and wind wane). Re: WIND SYSTEM CHOICE

I have Raymarine St60 installed on stern mast. In spite all expectation works just excellent in all wind directions. Integrated with Raymarine autopilot, Garmin 525s and electronic charts inside the cabin. Sea-talk/NMEA converter from Raymarine. Please note you will need log for correct calculation ...

Re: macgregor handling in choppy sea

... to be honest, I have far better ways of spending my time than soloing in F5 seas just to prove my manliness. :) For sure. But now you have something to remember. :) Respect. I'm also did several solo distant open sea sailing this /previous summer, some of them non-stop over 40 hours. Sometimes ...

Re: Gelcoat Issue Mac 26M (is it a lemon?)

Franky speaking I do not believe that blisters is just a cosmetic issue even I wish to believe so. Each blister pin is created by microscopic channel coming into laminate unfortunately - this is so called osmosis, nothing else. It cannot be allowed that acid containing in each blister will start to ...

Re: Gelcoat Issue Mac 26M (is it a lemon?)

Andrey can you tell us what we are looking at, with each picture? #1 = #4 ...... Bow, Stern what ever.. Where on these boats, are there 2 S.S. bolts installed side by side under, I presume then, under the water line?? Epoxy Primer... Sounds good . Sounds like a true Barrier Coating , but its not! I...

Re: macgregor handling in choppy sea

Actually a lot depends on sea wave length. Here some pictures of sailing in 20 knots wind (30 in some gusts) on a 40nm passage with genoa only and favorable stern wind direction. Short high waves give a lot of fears but the boat is steady on course and moving fast. Sailing by the wind in such condit...

Re: Gelcoat Issue Mac 26M (is it a lemon?)

So in my case epoxy primer (not a barrier paint) do not help to avoid blisters development. Here on the picture you can see all layers covered at the bottom: http://content6-foto.inbox.lv/albums145560197/a~lapchik/10-11-2010/TEST-area-with-no-blisters-antifouling-epoxy-primer-gelcoat-laminat-.jpg As...

Re: Gelcoat Issue Mac 26M (is it a lemon?)

Well, there some pictures below describing my case. Looks like blistering have appeared in places where gelcoat is thinner: http://content6-foto.inbox.lv/albums145560190/a~lapchik/10-11-2010/Portside-transdom-area.jpg Blisters itself looking like: http://content6-foto.inbox.lv/albums145560178/a~lapc...
