Ballast vent
I am new to Macgregor and I find it akward and possibly dangerous when sailing alone to go inside and open/close the ballast vent under the Vberth. Has somebody ever installed a tube to the cockpit where the vent could be opened/closed? Also, on your M or X, is the filling valve on the transom reall...

Re: Bent Mast
You could try to straighten it by holding the long part tightly in place ( which is not that easy) and inserting a long lever in the bottom part. I have done that with a smaller mast. Perhaps a machine shop could do that?. If the mast is really weakened a steel insert could correct that.

Re: Broken Rudder, Repair advice please..
On my previous sailboat, a Stiletto 27 catamaran, capable of m0re than 20 kts, the rudders were made of wood (oak): I do not know if they were laminated. If a rudder breaks on my 26X, I will build one made of solid oak, with a layer of fiberglass/epoxy. I have installed bronze bearings in my present...

Re: What is with all the holes in my centerboard?
I just removed the centerboard from my 26X. I did not worry about the holes, but I was very surprised that the centerboard hanger was completely corroded, and even the centerboard pin was deeplly corroded. The hanger is made of 2 SS straps with 1/2 in holes at the botton to receive the 1/2 in SS pin...

Re: Sea Worthy? Ideas and thoughts
I have sailed across the Atlantic 3 times on my 32 ft sailboat ( Europe-Acore-Canada), I have sailed hundred of miles off shore several times... and I have just bought a Mac26x. This is obviously not a bluewater boat and it cannot be modified to become a blue water boat. Only a few things : the mast...

Re: 26X vs 26M
Almost all saiboats have a backstay. Its main purpose is to support the mast when sailing downwind. This stay is not there just for looks. Sailing downwind with a masthead fastened spinnaker puts an enormous stress on the part of the mast above the spreaders, which is taken by the backstay. On the M...

Re: 26X vs 26M
Even though I have not received my 26X yet ( it will be dellivered as soon as weather permits) I found a difference between the X and the M that ( I think) no one has talked about and which is important if you want to put on large headsail ( tied at the masthead): the X has a backstay and the M does...

Re: Moving to a multihull
Moving from a multihull. After more than 30 years with monohulls, I bought a 27 ft racing catamaran and sailed 6 years with it. But singlehandling this beast capable of 20+kts, is quite demanding, and I just bought a MAc26x. Quite a different boat! I think I will like it, but just in case, I keep th...

Sanding bottom for Interprotec
I am a new member and perhaps this has already been answered before. I just bought a 2000 26x and I have to apply Interprotec. I don't like the idea of sanding the hull from beneath the trailer. Has anyone ever tried to put a 26x on its side, with the help of a boomtruck or backhoe: it would be firs...
