Re: Whitsundays Trip Report (somewhat late!)
G'day Rick. Certainly did some research before hand. I thoroughly recommend you get your hands on a book named "100 Magic Miles". Should be able to find it in Whitworths or BCF. It's the best reference for the area. I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have if I can help. Cheers,...

Whitsundays Trip Report (somewhat late!)
G'day all. Apologies for the delay, but below is a copy of the log I kept while we enjoyed the Whitsundays last September. The original is a MSWord doc with embedded photos. Due to the forum constraints, I can't embed the pics in the text below without dumping into photobucket or something similar. ...

Re: What's the best way to speed up mast raising / rigging
No Yukonbob. Definitely not on the ramp...in the rigging area like everyone else. Poor descriptive wording on my part.
BTW. 3 beers = 1 hour?

Re: What's the best way to speed up mast raising / rigging
I must say I've got some satisfaction out of reading this thread. The time it takes between rolling up to the ramp and dunking the boat has always been a topic of discussion between the Admiral and me. Until recently, she'd get quite anxious that we were 'taking too long and getting in the way of pe...

Chasing whales off Port Stephens
We took our :macm: up to Port Stephens for the weekend. Saturday morning we motored out of the bay and just NW of Fingal Light. This who we saw there...with about 10 of his mates and between 50 & 100 dolphins. http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y348/Mac_n_Me/image.jpg1_zpsntqtskpp.jpg http://i1...

Gelcoat cracks
G'day all. In the last few weeks I've noticed some hairline cracks in the gelcoat of our 2011 :macm: . I'm pretty sure they weren't there prior to Christmas and the boat has been under a tarp when not in use. Note we're in Australia, so Dec/Jan is hot rather than cold. See photo. http://i1028.photob...

Re: failure of front/bow standing rigging stay
I've got both a split pin and tie-wire in our turnbuckle. Hopefully between the two that'll keep it secure!

Re: New Dry-Flush (brand) toilet.
Frede, The dry-flush over hangs the :macm: 's step but not by a lot. The height of the unit might be a challenge for taller people. I'm 176cm (from memory that's about 5'8" or....nope, don't know in cubits). That actually works out that, when seated, my noggin is touching the head roof. Good in...

Re: New Dry-Flush (brand) toilet.
We installed a dry-flush in our
. So far it's been great. No smells, even when the boat hasn't been used for a couple of months and the unit is still...ummm..."loaded". That was a purposeful test btw!

Re: failure of front/bow standing rigging stay
Sadly, yes. Our forward stay failed...but only after I inadvertently engaged the mast with a tree while launching at an unfamiliar ramp. I wasn't going fast...walking pace...but that was enough. The mast fell back onto the rear support roller. Thankfully the mast was OK, as was the genoa. Needed a n...

Re: Galvanic Corrossion on Centerboard Hanger
While speaking of galvanic corrosion, regular checks of the aluminium trailer is definitely worthwhile methinks. Aluminium frame + steel bolts without a barrier are a likely long term risk. Im hoping to be able to add some barium chromate to those joints soonish.

Re: Genoa to Mast and Forestay
Neo, the forestay does not mount at the top of the mast...it mounts where the upper shrouds mount. This is known as a "fractional rig", where the jib or Genoa are affixed below the top of the mast. So you should have a single forestay up front and two shrouds either side (upper and lower)....

Re: Genoa to Mast and Forestay
Hi Neo. If you haven't got a copy of the Mac's instruction booklet, follow this link: http://www.macgregor26.com/instruction_manual/OWNERS%20INSTRUCTIONS.pdf You won't need a separate forestay. The forward stay is an integral part of the furling Genoa. You'll see in the booklet (page 5) the mounting...
