Venture 2-22 Spinnaker Question

Post by Timmer »

I just purchased a Macgregor V22-2 and was curious as to what size of spinnaker to look at purchasing for this boat.

Additionally if anyone has added a spinnaker to one of these what do I have to add to be able to succesfully fly one of these sails of this boat?

Thank you..

I had a symmetrical spinnaker on my Mac 25. You'll need a spinnaker pole you may not need the lines to adjust it's height unless you want to set the angle (topping lift and foreguy I think they're called). Of course you'll need to rig a halyard, and sheets to attach to the clews on the sail.

Spinnaker

I have a VERY OVERSIZED assymetric Spinnaker on my Venture 25

SO LARGE that I had to add a Spinnaker Crane and run as a full-rig Spinnaker.

I have only used it in light winds cause I don't know what extra, unnaccounted for stresses are involved.

BUT . . . it increased speed and MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE . . . it looked "real" nice.

NICE enough that I think I'd fly it even if it decreased performance.

I forgot to say, I fly the spinnaker with no poles very well.

Thanks guys, I've heard enough about tipping these boats over with a spinnaker that I think I'll wait until I have more cockpit time in this boat before I add one of these.

I appreciate all of the help and look forward to learning more, have a great Thanksgiving..

I just bought a V-22 and want to pick up a spinnaker for it.

What size would you need for it?

Is Luff/Leech 26' 2" and Foot 15'4" ok or is that too big?

Thanks

Here is the sailrite sail kit menu for this boat. It includes the measurements, and an option to buy the kit from them. They sell both an asymmetrical and a drifter for the V22.
