The wife doesn't know she is an admiral - yet
Well - I have never seen a real Mac 26. I really had no plans of getting a boat - until my daughter's soccer game 2 weeks ago. Her coach had just bought a 30 ft power boat - 10 foot beam and put in a local lake. When he told me his slip fee was $200 I couldn't believe how inexpensive it was - relative to my assumptions. His boat was a 1988 so pretty cheap too. I went home and started looking at boats on the internet...I could really get one!
I did have some issues though - he couldn't trailer his boat - it will be forever stuck in our lake. And - it has no sails - what fun is that in the early spring and late fall? I really wanted a Catalina 27 - my dream boat - but it would forever be sentenced to life in the prison of Lake Allatoona. Although they are cheap used - one should not be landlocked.
For 20 years we have spent summers at various beaches and inevitably - i end up wandering around the marinas wondering why I do not have a boat. in fact - in the summer of 1988 - as a new college graduate - I was determined to sail a boat up to one of the pubs in the Flats on Lake Erie/Cuyahoga River.
It turns out that google is again my very best friend. After numerous searches for a large sail boat that could be moved around and maybe tow kids - I happened upon a Mac 26. Last Weekend I spent 30-40 hours reading these sites. After struggling with new versus used i picked new. I worked with many really excellent dealers. And On Friday - I signed a one year lease on a 26X10 Slip - about 30 minutes after ordering a Very Much Faster Blue Hull 2008 26M.
The yet to be named Cruiser is on a train somewhere between Roger and Atlanta. In around 9 Days it will arrive and maybe 7 later i will pick it up and take it to its slip. Then I have to face my fears - and notify the wife that she has been interned to the MAC Navy as an Admiral...Not really sure how I will go about it yet - but any success stories would be most welcomed!
Thanks for all your help!
Still Dreaming - or is it Hallucinating?

First of all, welcome Bob.
Now down to the really important stuff.
If that is the case, and she is a really nice person, who is full of love and compassion, well, you won't have much of a problem. If she isn't
Don't tell her she's an admiral, because that makes her outrank you too much, and I don't think a presidential pardon is going to save you. Good luck and keep in touch
Now if it isn't the case (she does know about the boat) forget any thing you have just read, except for the "welcome Bob"

wlcome to the site bob, apart from getting your colour scheme wrong, its the white hull thats faster
ive been doing work on my boat this weekend, the admiral and my daughter came down to see my progress, after some great comments about how we are going to teach us all to sail, she said"what colour scheme do you want for the curtains? we need curtains
my little lady is a high paid exec but she is also a mean player with a sewing machine.
If you can get your hands on some paint protection film,id cover the new hull with it,scratches on your new boat will drive you nuts,

Someone out there has a success story - right?
C'mon guys - I know with all the innovators out tere - someone can or already has come up with a failsafe plan for someone in my situation. Wine and cheese party? Flowers? gotta be something out there that is known to work.
She does not know i bought the boat - it is going to be a "Surprise"..... Does this mean that she does not know you bought a boat
Allatoona is Full Pool - Lanier folks are buying up the remaining slips as the lake is briming. I would love to drop in Lanier sometime this summer - after I figure out how to keep all the lines and ropes and stuff untangled. I have the Yamaha High Thrust 60. Any advice on tubes, knee boards, wake boards? How is the water level in Allatoona? Hope it is higher than lake Lanier. Let me know if you want to drop in Lanier sometime. By the way. What size motor?
I do not believe that the white gel coat is harder than the blue - I got blue cause I never saw a white one under sail or motor on any video or slide show. I always saw white tied up to a dock. I figured it is just floating RV.If you can get your hands on some paint protection film,id cover the new hull with it,scratches on your new boat will drive you nuts,

Bienvenue a bord Bob,
Félicitations on your new blue hull
.
The winning move is strategic.
Tell her that you have a surprise for her. Don't waste any time ooh ing and ahing when she sees' the boat get her on board immediately or as soon as possible where you will give her pearl ear rings and then a pearl necklace followed by a glass of champagne and a few of her favorite really expensive chocolats. Make sure it is warm and bright in the boat. Then tell her you love her and give her a kiss!
Works every time

Lots of great advice above. If all else fails this site has is also a great place to advertise items you are forced to sell.
You should have someone video tape her reaction when you tell her, it will be a great memory to show the grandkids or you could post it on youtube, depending on reaction
Best of Luck

Welcome aboard, and make some good safe, fun, family memories.
Remember: when you bump the pier, & put the first scratch on that beautiful blue finish, never blame the Admiral. Just keep smiling. Ive discovered a Mac sails just fine with scratches...

Welcome!
Say they need a new radio, engine, tool, etc. They have it delivered to the office, get it kind of dirty, maybe a few scratches you could clean up later. Then just leave it laying around, maybe on your bench someplace. Whe she sees it, you just say "oh! that old thing", while I've had that a long time.
You get the idea. I've never tried it, but they say it works.
Accually, my problem was having to keep explaing why I spent so much time looking and evaluating options. She just keep saying "go buy one allready". Now I just have to get her the kayak she wants. Life is good!
