Bimini measurement please?

Post by JRonUnderSail »

Hi,
So I ordered a bimini for our 26X (2000)... After reading the search results on this website, I ordered a 32" height by 73" wide (on the bows) and 5' long.. It came on Friday....
We assembled it on Sunday (at the boat, 1 hour away) and it was "way too tall"... So today, I called Overton's where we cross checked the numbers from the actual manufacturer (Westland Industries)... Yep, mistake, ship it back, it's too tall (like 50"), but I pay for shipping ...
So I decided to "cut it down"... What is the "bow A" height? That would be the back (and main) supporting frame? Can anyone measure for us?
I also figured out that I can only fit a 52" long canvas... That will be easily solved with the local sailmaker...
So, I need the main boom length, can anyone help?
Fair Winds,
JR

Seems that the better idea would be getting it exchanged, and not tamper with sewing, cutting, and refitting an incorrect Bimini. You may be much more content with one designed for your boat. Just a thought.

I would furnish the measurements of my Bimini, however, my boat is slipped out of town.

Best of luck.

While Louis might have the better idea, here are the measurements you asked for:

The aft bow vertical height of installed bimini, above the seat back (on mine) is 36", or 69" from the lower aft deck area. Boom length is 126". Any other measures needed, let me know.

There are several really good posts on this subject, I forget who bought theirs from Overtons but they gave the exact measurements in the post (actually it was parrothead and here is the jist from the post)
So here's the ticket: order a 3-bow, 6' long, 79"-84" wide, 30"-36" high Hurricane Bimini Top from Overtons.com [item # 29793 if you want it in Sunbrella] and a set of the MacGregor genoa track bimini mounts from Bill or your favorite Mac dealer. I know the tracks on the Mac are only 72" apart -- but it will fit! And the wider the top, the more shade you get.

Exchange

I agree with Louis and K9 - - - exchange it - - - you'll be glad you did - - - and you can REALLY mess it up trying to get the one you have to fit and it could wind up costing you double :( or it could wind up looking terrible :o

Bite the bullet and send it back.

Rick :) :macm:

Don't cut it, check to see if you can return it. I just ordered a custom unit from Softopper in Colorado, and they sell one like it at Kelly Hanson. Should have mine by the end of the week and have it installed over the weekend if the weather cooperates.

Here are the measurements of the bimini I ordered for the X:
34" H x 52" L (Front to Back) x 75" between the deck hinges (can flex from 71" to 78")
