question about sail covers
I would like to purchase a mainsail cover and a Sail Sock for my Genoa on my 07
. Any suggestions. Is Kelly Hanson the way to go and will it be the best Quality. Do I want one that zips under the boom or the kind that has the hooks that twist or snaps?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Not sure what you're asking. For the Genoa, mine came with a cover sewn on. The less expensive route would be a sleeve type. Softopper makes a nice one that you hoist with the halyard and zip as you go.

They also make a very nice mainsail cover that I purchased for this year.

My main cover has twist (snaps) under the boom. It says "MacGregor" on the side so it must be a factory cover. I kind of like that because it can breathe and water can't get trapped in there. Keeps rain off, but most important keeps sun off.
I have a zipper sock for the roller furler. My last boat had sunbrella material sewn into the sail that wrapped around. I'm told these smaller sails don't work well that way because the sunbrella is too stiff. So I've got a sock.
I've only had my
out twice, but I don't like the sock. So far, it takes 2 people. One to zipper it and another to pull the halyard. Perhaps I'll get better at it, but I'm clumsy hoisting it up.
Still, Dacron and sunlight are not friends, so cover them up.

I bought mine from them and have been happy. I also bought a pedistal cover. Nice addition to protect electronics.
BWY also has some.

Ours came from Blue Water Yachts.
The mainsail cover has the twist snaps both on the bottom and up the mast, with a tie at the top of the mast section that snugs everything tight so very little rain gets onto the head of the sail. It works excellent.
Our headsil cover on the other hand, is a serious pain in the aft
. It has three seperate short zippers for some reason??. If we were to buy a new one, it would have only two zippers. One long one from the top to where the sheets tie to the clew, then a short space between the two zippers (12 inches for the sheets to go through) then the shorter zipper to go down to the deck.

My mainsail cover has the twist locks on the boom, and a zipper up the mast
Both techniques work well. In fact, I like that combination.
While the Admiral powers Nice Aft into the wind, to put on the cover, I zip the mainsail cover onto the mast. While the part that covers the boom is acting like Superman's cape, I close each twist lock starting at the one close to the mast, and then work my way aft. I do the reverse when taking off the cover. It works quite well. By the way, the sail cover is made of black Sunbrella.

Main: Zipper on the front by the mast, and snaps on the bottom.
Genoa on Furler: One very long zipper. Works great. Can do it singlehanded with no problem. But must make sure to get fairly tight wrap when furling in the sail. Otherwise the middle part of the furled sail is a little "fat" and it gets difficult to get the sock to go over it.
Also, if you go with the sock I think you need to be careful how the sock halyard is rigged. They seem to have a tendancy to wrap around the Genoa when furling and unfurling. My sock halyard block is attached so that it sticks out a little bit forward of the the furler. And then I attach the halyard to my puplit with a snap shackle. I pull it tight to keep it away from the sail. And it kinda/sorta acts like a safety line in case my forestay/furler lets go...or at least I hope it will...

I had one custom made by a local sailmaker (Harding Sails), it blows away all the sail covers I have seen in quality, fit and finish.. BUT it also was about twice the price of the sail covers I have seen. They might still have the pattern in stock from when they did mine, but there are probably more cost effective solutions out there.

Same here, except ours also has a flap that snaps over the zipper in front of the mastMy mainsail cover has the twist locks on the boom, and a zipper up the mast. Both techniques work well. In fact, I like that combination.
They also made our snap-on jib sock, which we now only use for trailering and winter storage [too much windage in the slip].
