26x Softopper Cabin Cushion Covers

Post by spudz72 »

Just bought my first MAC 26X last week and not a big fan of the outdated cushions in the 26x and noticed the softopper ones on eBay. Just curious if anyone here has purchased them and if so what do you think of the quality of them? They look good from the photos on the eBay listing. You have to use your foam from your old cushions which is not a problem as my foam is in good shape.

Comments would be appreciated. URL to the cushions on eBay are below...

excellent product.
i've had my cushion covers (teak color) for over a year and haven't looked back. they really update the interior.
i also ordered the matching carpeting.
looks fantastic, both great products!

Thanks for the info Bob! I did notice they had a website also and checked it out and saw the carpets too, which look nice as well. I also was curious was the teak color looked like, as compared to the buckskin which is the color they show in the photos. I would assume the teak is a bit lighter? Do you by chance have any photos of your interior showing your covers so I could decide what color to order? I am thinking maybe the teak is more closer in color the the factory M cushion colors, which I do like.

Also is the material more like a leather or a suede? Does it stick to you if you are hot and sweaty? That's one thing I'm thinking might be an issue. Although it would be better for if you had a wet bathing suit as it wouldn't go through into the foam, as I would guess it would repel the water. Last question is how do you mount them? Using velcro strips like the originals?

Thanks for you help thus far.

Here are mine. They are Teak. The carpets are from them as well.

They are not particularly sticky. They mount with velcro, but they are reversed from the factory setup so you have to peel off all the factory loop tape strips and put on the new hook ones they include with the new covers.

They look great.

Ugg. Do you think that's by accident or on purpose. If they matched the factory it would be easy enough for the customer to decide whether or not, the loop tapes needed replacing.

my X looks identical to Duane's.
Teak is the proper color (and matches carpet better too).

I didn't get interior cushions from them, but got a set of cockpit cushions (in teak, a light brown) and have had nothing but comments about how nice they look and the quality of construction. I have also added a bimini and sail cover from them, as well as new carpet. Bob at Softopper makes a quality product, and they stand behind their work. I recommend calling them on their 800 number rather than Ebay as it saves them a few bucks in overhead.

I have his carpet set and his sail cover. Both were well made and have served us nicely.

I never bought Softopper's cushions, but I did buy their Bimini and main sail cover. Both well made products, better than MacGregor stock, and certainly more affordable. Also, good, polite service.
