Drink Holders
Does anyone have experience with the cup holders that attach to the lifelines? I've seen the fold out types and some of the plastic for parts but I think I like the ability to set a few holders on the lifeline when I'm entertaining and put them away when I'm doing more serious sailing...
Dowsar in Canada sells them but the shipping cost is crazy... anyone have a better source?

Well I've tried both the hanging ones and the suction cup ones they sell for $8.50 US. The only problem with the hanging ones is that the life lines around the cockpit are angled or at least they are on my M. So, my drink makes a zipline action towards the back where it bangs against the stanchion flatting a beer and spilling everything with a suprising efficiency.
The suction cup one seemed like an ideal solution but it never held well. After a min or 2 it'd slip down and then fall off. So far the solution is to sail one handed or learn how to chug:-) I'm still young compared to most of you so it doesn't bother me too badly.

I installed a couple of the fold out single cup holders. They are attached to the pedestal one below the wheel and the other on the port side with SS screws. Only thing is you have to remember to fold them back as soon as you are finshed with them as it is easy to bump into them. I ended up breaking the cover on one which was left open, when trying catch an escapee fish that was heading at great speed for the transom. I retreived the fish but found the fold down cover for the holder on the floor with a piece of the corner broken off.

I use the lifeline drink holders and like them. Paid $14 @ BoatersWorld I leave mine permanently on line and crimped the end so it can not come off easily. I also just picked up two of the "winch wench" http://www.latsandatts.net/store/produc ... t=0&page=1 I have not used them yet but they look like they will work well.

We have a pair of ungimbaled TwistIt! drinkholders on the C-18. The 1" ones fit on the compression posts, stanchions, and pushpits of the C-18. The company also makes a gimbaled version, as well as "SnapIt!s" and lifeline drink holders.

Has anyone tried the Grippit? http://www.boatersworld.com/product/337010102msk.htm The Admiral got a Coke Zero shower yesterday after her bottle rolled around the cockpit, and we all "forgot" to tell her.

Re: Drink Holders
I used to use the type which hang on the lifeline, but I kept forgetting they were there. When I undid the lifeline to exit the boat, I would hear a splash
After losing three that way, I started making my own out of metal hangars. They worked, but I lost those also
I now use the type with a suction base and a foam insert. I wet the suction, and fasten them to the pedestal. They have been working very well. Along with drinks, I also use one to keep my air horn handy.
I am going to investigate the bicycle cup holder idea

Re: Drink Holders
Listen, if you are serving a good single malt Scotch aboard, I will personally come and hold your glass (and the bottle).

Re: Drink Holders
I made pop/beer can holders each comprising a length of plastic pipe, shorter than the can andwide enuf to loosely receive a can. A length of aluminum clothesline or string is fixed diametrically across the lower part of the pipe so the can does not fall thru. A second piece of aluminum clothesline is fixed to the upper part of the pipe and is bent to hook over the lifeline and not interfere with lifting the can out of the top of the pipe. Cheap!
