glad i stumbled into this chain. sailing last wk end, used my new toaster over via newly installed bank of 2 X 117ah house batteries. worked fine, altho now i realize it was risky because my inverter ground post was not connecter anywhere. as i correct that, i might as well connect negative posts between motor battery & house bank together.

i am thinking of installing a mains fuse or breaker on neg battery post of each battery. anyone have any suggestion on what works/fits well?
I have all 3 batteries hudled together under the port solo seat. all cables conected to batteries are 2 gage. i also tape over all pos terminals.

i'm confused about the isolater preventing galvanic action. diag shows isolation between inverter output & appliance. i assume the dc neg is directly grounded to engine. so i don't see how the isolator helps.

RHC, I'm deducing you have a 26X. The highlighted comment above infers that it can't be the 26M.
I also (vaguely) recall your announcement of taking a new 26X into Half Moon Bay.
But please consider adding your boat/motor models into the Profile Location, so we don't need to guess. ~fc

The diagram is for shore power with a combination charger/inverter. The AC outputs of the inverter are not shown. The isolation transformer is only needed if you use shore power. It prevents stray currents from other boats from passing through your water grounds, boat electrical system and back to shore ground, causing galvanic deterioration of your systems.

I finally spoke with a techie at Harbor Freight who knew the answer to "where do you attach the case grounding wire in a sailboat". Answer, to the negative terminal of the battery with a minimum #6 wire.
