Trip to Lake Cootharaba & Harvey Bay

Post by davidbagnall »

Hi all
I will be up at Lake Cootharaba (sailing and camping) & Harvey Bay (for some whale watching & sailing) from the 20th Sept thru to the 4th Oct.
If anyone is up that way drop in and say hi :) :) (for those stuck at a desk I will pause for a moment to think of those less fortunate :P )

You just didn't like the sand hills idea :D

Hey Cam,

You are more than welcome to crew any time, just leave the new little bundle of joy with she who must be obeyed on shore.
I am way beyond smelly pants and crying to sleep, except myself 8)

My two are now set and forget.. Till they need money of cause.

Doing an overnighter on Curtain 6-7 October. Hopefully will have more to show for it than that sardine of a snapper :)

Weather is looking good for Saturday unfortunatly I have a full boat so you would have to sit in the dingy on the tow.

Happy New Year Maccers everywhere,
A question re Cootharaba; Is the Noosa River navigable from the boatramps at Noosa to Lake Cootharaba by Mac 26M? I am thinking of a Cootharaba trip for Easter, maybe some other Maccers would be thinking along the same lines.

Hi Mate

You can make it from from Noosa River to the lake. I launch directly from Boreen Point http://maps.google.com.au/?ie=UTF8&t=h& ... 49772,,0,5
It is a very simple boat ramp but is deep enough to float my Mac on and off the trailer. It does get a bit exposed if a NE gets blowing (completely protected in SE) so its best to launch in the morning before the wind gets up. It is even possible to get the mac up into the everglades however the entrance can get very shallow if the lake is low (the last time I went up it was just 50cm).
Remember the lake is quit shallow so keep your centerboard part up and depth sounder on so you don't get caught out. The lake suits the mac quite well. Navigating down into Noosa river is not difficult but keep an eye on water depth as you go through Lake Cooroibah http://maps.google.com.au/?ie=UTF8&t=h& ... 09863&z=14
If memory serves me well you can get fuel at Noosaville (somewhere around the Boat House Restaurant) and overnighting at Noosa Sound is lovely.
I think we will be up there at easter time so lets look at starting a MACgatta :) Calling all Macs want to get the boat wet this Easter?

On another story My Son in his first season sailing has just got 3rd in the Pacer nationals!!! :) :) :) :)
