Clunking Daggerboard on 26M
Has anyone managed to silence a 26M Daggerboard that clunks all night long when tied up to a pontoon. I have tried it fully up and all the way down with no luck.

Retract it fully and try jamming one of those rubber door wedges between the trailing edge and the casing

I always leave the daggerboard down. I feel it helps somewhat with stability. I always felt that the water resistance on the board would help slow down the banging. When the daggerboard is up all of the way, it is hanging free. Every shift in the boat will make it bang against its sleeve. I sleep well on the boat, and do not recall hearing any disturbing noise from the daggerboard.

The best option is to anchor in a flat calm location - if the boat is not rolling then the board will not clunk back and forth
Of course, that is not always an option so when I can't get a smooth anchorage I go to my highly scientific method: I fiddle with it. (Fiddling is a very technical activity you know!) Somewhere in the middle is usually a position where it quiets down. Unfortunately, I haven't found anything better than trial-and-error to figure it out.

Or you can get a custom one made like mine which is thicker than stock. No banging at all and you can get it ballsted. It's cost you though, and of course, you run into a handful of other issues. Everyhting is a compromise.

Re: Clunking Daggerboard on 26M
You could try a variant of this 26X mod -Quiet Center Board to reduce the gap and cushion the clunk of f/g on f/g, or maybe some strips of semi rigid foam lowered down both (inner) sides of the board trunk when anchored?
Failing that, ear plugs

Leon, might one of those issues be the strength needed to raise and lower ityou run into a handful of other issues

Re: Clunking Daggerboard on 26M
Yeah, I do break a sweat hauling it up, even with the 6:1 tackle... plenty of friction with the blocks rolling on deck... and pulling up nearly 30 feet of line. I also had it jam a few times and it wouldn't drop at all. I figured out the problem (sand & pebbles in the db well.) Both times the keel jammed was after beaching the boat. I no longer do that. But, despite the compromises, the added ballast provides 20-25% additional righting moment which I need on my pond. The non-clanking is a great bonus. Oh, and the thing actually doesn't chip and crumble like the stock boards. I went through two stock boards and already had a nice wedge chewed out of the trailing edge of the third stock board before getting this keel. I am now shopping for the pefect sailing yachtLeon, might one of those issues be the strength needed to raise and lower it On second thought, never mind the lowering issue. I'm sure it goes down easy, and fast

Never really noticed it but usually am fairly fussy about anchorages, but did have a major problem with frogs croaking in there, maybe they cushioned the board?
