Gippsland Lakes, Easter 2009

Post by ubi_est_via »

Hi All,
Over the Australia Day weekend I ran into a number of Mac owners ( Peter, skipper of La Pearla Bleu, Kevin, skipper of Bird of Passage & Ainsley, skipper of Flying Cloud) on the lakes we all got talking & thought it would be great if we could get the word out & organise a Mac Rally/ regatta/ catch up over the easter holidays ( Starting/ finishing point would most likely be Paynesville).
So if your interested pls let us know & I will continue to post updates & details as they develop....Cheers, John :D

John,
we normally go off to Lake Bullen Merri to race our skiff. However if we can scare up enough interest, I'm in.
I'll start the ball rolling and suggest a fixed format of destinations, thus enabling people to come an go as they please, but meet up when it suits.
Could be something like:
 Thursday Night: Dawsons Cove at Paynesville, great beach to back up to, with toilets nearby. Would be less than a Nm South from the launching ramp. Easy to navigate to regardless of how dark the night is.
 Friday Night: Up the Nicholson River to Nicholson. Great facilites, good Pub, and very few people go there.
 Saturday Night: Could do a run down to Lakes Entrance for a spot of Mini Golf during the day, returning to Box Ck near Metung. Possibly the best place to stay on the Lakes (IMO).
 Sunday Night: Either Bunga Arm Campsite No 1 or 2 (up Bunga Arm North of Steamers Landing) or if foul weather go to Duck Arm.

It's only ideas, but it's a start

Brian

P.S. The admiral was watching me type this, and gave her official nod of approval.

Only just got back from the Lakes (last thurs) and except for the weather (no sun) and lack of fishing reckon it's a great place to actually sail but it's a damn long was to travel from here, especially when you crack a head half way down ($3000) .
There are certanly some great places but wasn't impressed with Metung as it was totally exposed, Boxer Creek was great to get out of it though, the only place we didn't check out except by road was Lakes Entrance but pretty well circumnavigated everything else and checked out all the rivers although only went 15k up the Latrobe.
Will I be there?? don't know yet but am doing some mods for this years winter cruise and wouldn't mind trying them out first, so only a possible at this stage.

Hi John,
Kevin and Christine(bird of passage) would be interested in a macgregor cruise around the gippsland lakes area over the easter weekend,
Because we live in Paynesville we would be happy to use our house as a base, and also if any organising is to be done we would be happy
to assist.
Regards Kevin Svenson.

We plan to be down the lakes as well over Easter. Just enjoying the Queensland sun too much at the moment.

Will do Heath.
For any one who is interested I'm planning to be in Paynesville from Thursday 9th April to Tuesday 14th April.
I'll post these dates on the calendar & I will start to work up a plan / intinery of sorts.. To this end can I have an indication of who is planning to be there & any suggestions of what people would like to do or go....Cheers, JG

Yep, we'll be there.
I was leaning towards going skiff racing, but I've blown the rudder box up on the Skiff, and it's going to take too long to get another one. :x

We'll get down to Paynesville on Thurday night after work, probably around 11pm and drop the boat in. We'll be going home on Monday, so like good little workers we can go to work on Tueday. :(

My idea of things / places to go was mentioned earlier.

See you there :macm:

It is also our intention to go to the lakes, if I can get the boat clean. More than likely arriving on the Friday, staying till Monday.

The "bum" is clean, the boat is half polished, some internal work still to do and than all set to go on the Easter weekend, weather depending.
We will go with some other friends with an RL24, but like to catch up with the MAC group.

John,

I have submitted the info to the Calendar for approval. I have done some sleuthing on the problem that you had. We have had problems with this in the past and thought that they were solved, but you appear to have found a way around the solution. :D Way to go, this is how bugs are found and solved. Are you a computer security expert? 8) Just joking.

The only way that I can recreate your problem was to use the URL http://www.macgregor26x.com/. Please note, this is not the correct url, it is the old address to the website. The correct address is:

http://www.macgregorsailors.com/

Everyone please check your bookmarks and if need be, correct the address. In the meantime, I have notified Heath of the problem and we will have it solved shortly, until someone finds another bug.

We would love to go but alas this is the year of the 50th Birthday for our group of friends, we shall be attending a party for our neighbour on the Saturday evening making the drive from the Blue Mountains to Gippsland Lakes the next day a bit unrealalistic, I would have like to have come as I have never sailed the region.
