I assume you have already viewed the "Classifieds" link above? Not sure if any of those are in the Savannah area.
Good Luck,

Thanks for the links. I have seen those boats but I am a little uneducated in what to look for in a boat. Is a survey necessary? I'm kind of hesitant to just jump into a boat as I don't want to end up having fix a boat that I buy.

Re: Looking for a 26X
Please take a look at the classifieds on this website.
There is a very nice 2000X model available in Lake Worth, Florida.
The boat's name is "Gostosa".
I inspected the boat last weekend--it is very well equipped.

Just as a point of discussion, I am sure there will be other thoughts/opinions on the subject...I didn't know much about the differences between anGLD1976 wrote:Thanks for the links. I have since sailed on 2 different

My knowledge of boats was fairly limited when I bought. I did not have a survey...didn't think it was necessary. But I did pretty thoroughly examine my boat. I am not sure if a survey is necessary. But I would definitely ask for an "on the water" examination so you can see that everything works especially motor, steering, sails, lines, water ballast.
Good Luck,

Re: Looking for a 26X
Hi Buddy
Welcome to the forum,i have one of the
that c130 has sailed on,i did not have a survey done but i did do my home work before i bought one. When i found my boat it was in very good condition,in fact all but one of the boats that i looked at were in great condition,if you find one with great big chunks missing from the GRP then i suggest keep clear of it.Take a look at the rigging,is it frayed? etc and check out the mast,a
mast will have a curve in it,do the usuall and check all electrical items etc.the only really expensive areas to replace with these boats are the engine followed by the trailer,if the guy was like my P.O then he would have a ships log, have a read at it,i did a quick calc and it worked out that the engine had only seen around 200 hours usage and when i took the cover off ,it became obvious that it has been looked after,if you are unsure about engines ,take a buddy with you.
If there is any thing wrong with these boats, then its cheap to replace, have a look around at a few and then you will start to form an idea of whats good and bad, take a look in the bilges and in the storage spaces,if the boat smells clean and not musky then your on to a good one,i looked at 8
,s and only saw one poorly looked after one.

Re: Looking for a 26X
So I purchased a 26X and I'm stoked. It's a 1996 model and I am very much looking forward to starting my mods and taking it out for the first time this weekend. I do have one question for you all though. On the steering console there is a knob labeled lock and unlocked. Does anyone know if this is a lock for the steering? Like a "autopilot" Thanks in advanced.

Re: Looking for a 26X
congrats!
Yep, that sounds like a "poor man's autopilot" to me.
P.S. Savannah is such a beautiful area. I hope to bring my X over that way and explore sometime.

On mine you first point the boat so the phasers line up on your target, then twist the knob to locked....n the steering console there is a knob labeled lock and unlocked.
oh, sorry, wrong thread....
(its probably a helmlock autopilot, first designed by Socrates)
